counted for righteousness. 00:15.260 --> 00:17.620 And I believe that this is an important verse 00:17.620 --> 00:20.780 to help us understand that faith alone 00:21.370 --> 00:23.240 is enough to save someone. 00:25.000 --> 00:26.540 That's an important phrase. 00:26.720 --> 00:28.520 And that's what I'm preaching about tonight 00:28.520 --> 00:30.260 is faith alone enough. 00:30.980 --> 00:32.000 And the answer is yes. 00:32.560 --> 00:36.440 And it's really to combat what I hear often taught 00:36.440 --> 00:38.220 about saving faith. 00:38.480 --> 00:40.600 Some people will give this terminology 00:40.600 --> 00:44.580 of saving faith versus a non-saving faith. 00:45.000 --> 00:48.360 And they try to act like you can believe the gospel, 00:48.980 --> 00:50.860 but if you don't have enough works 00:50.860 --> 00:52.280 that you're still not saved. 00:52.900 --> 00:56.300 And I really wanna dispel that idea this evening 00:56.820 --> 00:58.540 and look at what scripture says, 00:58.740 --> 01:02.240 but notice very carefully a few things about verse five. 01:02.660 --> 01:04.420 It says someone that worketh not. 01:04.720 --> 01:08.400 So it's not saying that they're working, 01:08.820 --> 01:10.720 but they were justified by their faith. 01:11.020 --> 01:12.260 It's saying they're not working. 01:13.060 --> 01:15.140 So it's saying someone that's not doing any works. 01:15.680 --> 01:17.100 And then it says additionally, 01:17.740 --> 01:18.960 but believeeth on him that justify, 01:19.280 --> 01:21.120 notice this, the ungodly. 01:21.620 --> 01:25.720 It's not, the word justify in the Bible 01:26.020 --> 01:27.980 is meaning to declare just. 01:28.740 --> 01:30.740 Okay, we're declaring someone just. 01:31.300 --> 01:35.480 Declaring someone just is declaring someone morally right. 01:36.060 --> 01:40.960 How can we declare someone morally right that is ungodly? 01:41.020 --> 01:42.580 This is almost like a contradiction 01:42.580 --> 01:46.280 because ungodly means they're not morally right, 01:46.440 --> 01:48.820 but we're declaring them morally right. 01:48.960 --> 01:49.540 Why? 01:49.880 --> 01:50.440 Through faith. 01:51.060 --> 01:52.680 Now again, how can that make sense? 01:52.680 --> 01:55.760 It's because Jesus was morally right. 01:56.140 --> 01:57.680 Jesus was righteous. 01:58.440 --> 01:59.820 And so when we believe in Jesus, 02:00.120 --> 02:03.680 his righteousness is then applied to us. 02:04.440 --> 02:06.340 So what causes me to be just, 02:06.720 --> 02:08.360 what causes me to be justified, 02:09.000 --> 02:10.380 what causes me to be righteous 02:10.380 --> 02:13.980 is Christ's righteousness given to me 02:13.980 --> 02:16.500 by me believing in him. 02:17.040 --> 02:19.880 Now this is spelled out in the previous chapter. 02:20.200 --> 02:21.560 Let's look at a few times 02:21.560 --> 02:24.140 where it's mentioning this idea of justification. 02:24.700 --> 02:26.040 Look at verse 24. 02:27.540 means I am considered right with God, absolutely free. 02:41.820 --> 02:45.140 I didn't do anything through my works or good efforts 02:45.440 --> 02:47.140 to be considered right with God. 02:47.600 --> 02:49.300 I'm justified freely 02:49.300 --> 02:52.800 and I was redeemed by what specifically 02:53.300 --> 02:56.860 I was redeemed through Jesus Christ, his grace. 02:57.340 --> 02:58.200 It says in verse 24. 02:58.600 --> 03:02.140 Being justified freely by his grace, right? 03:02.300 --> 03:05.020 Verse 25, whom God has set forth 03:05.420 --> 03:08.140 to be a propitiation through faith in his blood 03:08.140 --> 03:10.880 to declare his righteousness 03:11.280 --> 03:12.840 for their mission of sins that are passed 03:12.840 --> 03:13.700 to the reverence of God. 03:14.220 --> 03:17.760 So God allowed the payment or the propitiation to be 03:18.460 --> 03:21.980 done through our faith in Jesus' blood. 03:22.640 --> 03:26.600 So the payment for my sin is my faith in Jesus' It says, in the middle, even so by the righteousness 04:01.940 --> 04:05.160 of one, the free gift came upon all men 04:05.160 --> 04:06.080 in the justification of life. 04:06.560 --> 04:09.020 Who is the only one that was righteous? 04:09.420 --> 04:10.240 It was Jesus. 04:10.740 --> 04:11.800 And what does it mean to be righteous? 04:11.800 --> 04:13.380 It means that he always did right. 04:14.320 --> 04:16.540 The Bible says Jesus was tempted in all points 04:16.540 --> 04:19.220 like as we are yet without sin. 04:19.820 --> 04:21.920 So what the Bible teaches is that Jesus Christ 04:22.440 --> 04:26.200 never lied, he never disobeyed his parents, 04:26.900 --> 04:29.900 he never committed any sin in the Bible. 04:30.300 --> 04:32.280 He was righteous all the time. 04:32.580 --> 04:34.340 And so by the righteousness of one, 04:34.920 --> 04:36.400 the free gift is given to us. 04:36.860 --> 04:39.140 Go back to verse 26, to declare, I say at this time, 04:39.620 --> 04:40.960 his righteousness, who's righteousness? 04:40.960 --> 04:42.660 Are we declaring the righteousness of the one, 04:42.960 --> 04:45.680 Jesus Christ, that he might be just, 04:45.820 --> 04:47.960 and notice this, and the justifier 04:48.540 --> 04:50.240 of him which believeth in Jesus. 04:50.480 --> 04:51.720 Notice he's a justifier, 04:52.540 --> 04:54.920 meaning he's making other people just. 04:55.920 --> 04:57.340 Who does Jesus make just? 04:58.060 --> 04:59.380 Those who believe in him. 05:00.160 --> 05:01.520 Not those who were good enough, 05:01.920 --> 05:03.320 not those who had enough works, 05:03.620 --> 05:04.920 but those who believed in him. 05:05.420 --> 05:07.780 So then the question would be, where is boasting then? 05:07.780 --> 05:10.400 And the --> 06:20.040 Or I used to be a gang banger, now I don't. 06:20.340 --> 06:23.040 Or I killed people in prison and I have all these 06:23.040 --> 06:25.080 teardrops, now I don't kill people or something. 06:25.320 --> 06:27.180 And look, you go to churches and it'll be like that. 06:28.220 --> 06:29.980 And it'll be like, that's why they're going to heaven. 06:30.680 --> 06:32.940 Oh, I repented of my sin, I gave my money, 06:33.060 --> 06:34.400 I gave up this, I did this. 06:34.400 --> 06:37.180 So they're boasting, they're bragging in what they did. 06:37.440 --> 06:40.720 But the Bible says there is no boasting, it's excluded. 06:41.880 --> 06:44.360 All we do when we preach the gospel is we declare 06:44.360 --> 06:47.280 his righteousness, we're declaring that Jesus was perfect 06:47.280 --> 06:49.480 and Jesus paid for all of our sins. 06:49.900 --> 06:50.960 That's what we're declaring. 06:51.780 --> 06:53.260 Abraham has nowhere to glory. 06:53.540 --> 06:54.760 He cannot glory in anything. 06:55.580 --> 06:57.420 So then verse three for what saved the scripture. 06:57.860 --> 07:00.740 Abraham believed God and it was counted 07:00.740 --> 07:02.200 under him for righteousness. 07:02.860 --> 07:05.020 So Abraham got saved the same way I did. 07:05.340 --> 07:07.960 He believed the gospel and he got saved 07:07.960 --> 07:08.820 by believing the gospel. 07:09.300 --> 07:10.820 Verse four, now to him that worketh 07:10.820 --> 07:12.340 is there were not reckoned of grace but of debt. 07:12.420 --> 07:14.260 Now this is just basically an explanation of saying 07:14.940 --> 07:18.180 that if salvation were of works, 07:18.560 --> 07:21.040 then God would basically owe us something. 07:22.320 --> 07:25.200 If salvation had anything to do with me 08:12.140 his faith is kind of a righteousness. 08:12.700 --> 08:14.440 So that's why we can see someone like the thief 08:14.440 --> 08:18.480 on the cross who was ungodly, had no works, 08:18.880 --> 08:22.120 never did works but yet believed in Jesus Christ 08:22.120 --> 08:23.620 in the last moments of his life, 08:23.860 --> 08:27.440 still went to heaven because he was justified 08:27.440 --> 08:28.560 by his faith. 08:28.940 --> 08:31.460 He was justified by believing in Jesus Christ. 08:31.840 --> 08:34.360 Now some people believe that this thief 08:34.840 --> 08:37.400 that died on the cross would have magically 08:37.400 --> 08:39.680 got off that cross and been the greatest Christian 08:39.680 --> 08:41.900 to ever live if given the chance 08:41.900 --> 08:43.320 and he just didn't get the chance. 08:43.800 --> 08:45.120 But here's the thing, there's no evidence 08:45.120 --> 08:46.240 that he was gonna be that way. 08:48.080 --> 08:51.660 Lot, this guy according to the after covetousness, 09:15.340 --> 09:17.280 marries his daughters of sodomites, 09:17.700 --> 09:20.160 then he commits some weird 09:20.160 --> 09:22.200 Kentucky Backwoods country song 09:22.660 --> 09:25.120 and basically knocks up both of his own daughters 09:25.640 --> 09:26.780 after getting drunk. 09:26.940 --> 09:29.960 He gets so drunk that he knocks up both of his daughter 09:29.960 --> 11:30.760 --> 11:31.660 you could ever imagine. 11:32.100 --> 11:35.060 Many of the heathen drop their idolatry, 11:35.220 --> 11:36.380 they burn their books, 11:36.840 --> 11:39.080 they dedicate their lives to the Lord Jesus Christ, 11:39.340 --> 11:39.900 they get saved. 11:39.900 --> 11:42.480 So yeah, some people get, as they would call, 11:42.640 --> 11:43.620 radically saved. 11:44.180 --> 11:45.160 But let me tell you something, 11:45.280 --> 11:47.920 you don't have to be radically saved to be saved, 11:48.160 --> 11:49.080 you just have to be saved. 11:49.840 --> 11:51.800 And faith alone is enough. 11:52.840 --> 11:54.340 The Bible's crystal clear on this point. 11:54.920 --> 11:56.320 Let's just keep reading though. 11:56.820 --> 11:57.760 Look at chapter five. 11:58.260 12:12.480 Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven 12:12.480 --> 12:14.140 and whose sins are covered. 12:14.460 --> 12:17.240 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. 12:17.380 13:39.000 --> 13:42.420 so as the gift for the judgment was by one decontamination, 13:42.560 --> 13:47.760 but the free gift is of many offenses under justification. 13:48.200 --> 13:50.420 So even though we have so many sins, 13:51.340 --> 13:52.660 we were still given the free gift 13:52.660 --> 13:54.240 and were considered justified, 13:54.720 --> 13:57.840 even though it's just one gift to many offenses. 13:58.440 --> 14:00.760 Says in verse 17, for by one man's offense, 14:01.320 --> 14:03.760 death reigned by one, much more they would receive 14:03.760 --> 14:06.100 abundance of grace 29:16.500 --> 29:17.500 And he's preaching against that. 29:17.920 --> 29:19.140 I agree, that's stupid. 29:19.280 --> 29:21.680 It's nonsense, it's not true, it's not real. 29:22.280 --> 29:23.260 It's a bad idea. 29:23.960 --> 29:26.140 And he makes a lot of great statements 29:26.580 --> 29:28.040 in this sermon at the beginning. 29:28.440 --> 29:30.720 So I wanna clarify that I agree 29:30.720 --> 29:32.820 with virtually everything I'm about to read, okay?
