We have here the Psalmist kind of lamenting the fact that 00:48.190 --> 00:53.760 there aren't faithful men. He's not observing that. They fail from among the children of men. It's a 00:53.760 --> 00:59.640 rarity to find someone who's faithful. Why? Because of societal decay. That's what we see here. 01:00.100 --> 01:07.300 Societal decay. There is a problem with the morality of this culture that he's observing 01:07.300 --> 01:14.060 here in Psalm chapter 12. There's vanity. There's pride. There's oppression. But then there's also 01:14.060 --> 01:19.180 a promise of preservation. And I'll get into that in more detail. But we have a conclusion 01:19.180 --> 01:25.380 at the end of the chapter that I want to highlight in verse 8. This is, I think, a warning. 01:25.860 --> 01:30.180 This is something all of us should take very seriously. This is a great verse to memorize. 01:30.840 --> 01:35.620 This is something to pay very, very close attention to and listen very carefully to 01:35.620 --> 01:44.540 in verse number 8. It says, the wicked walk on every side when the vilest men are exalted. 01:44.780 --> 01:51.100 And that's the title of my sermon. When the vilest men are exalted. When the vilest men are 01:51.100 --> 01:56.900 exalted. The lowest of the low. The scum of the earth. When they're elevated in a culture. 01:57.500 --> 02:02.780 You have certain consequences. There's a product that flows from that. There are 02:02.780 --> 02:09.140 results. There's very rotten fruit that comes when the vilest men are exalted. And so I want to warn 02:09.140 --> 02:15.880 you tonight about that. I want to warn you about the consequences. There are very real consequences 02:16.880 --> 02:24.000 when a group of people decide to elevate the vilest of men. When a nation decides 02:24.000 --> 02:31.020 to elevate and exalt the vilest of men, there are real consequences that all of us have to 02:31.020 --> 02:38.940 deal with. People have evil role models today. They don't look up to righteous people. 02:39.520 --> 02:45.540 They look up to the wicked. You have the masses exalting. Just the lowest of the low. 02:46.680 --> 02:52.680 People with large followings online who are just total dirtbags that nobody should be following, 02:52.820 --> 02:57.260 that nobody should be getting any kind of advice from. And it's a problem. Let's look at Malachi 2. Malachi 2. 03:10.740 --> 03:16.060 When the vilest men are exalted, there are real consequences for that. And you know what? 03:16.140 --> 03:22.480 Somebody needs to speak up and say something and be honest about this issue or else the 03:22.480 --> 03:27.860 world is just going to continue on its bobsled straight to hell. Did you notice that? 04:25.560 --> 04:31.580 Everyone that doeth evil is good in the sight of the Lord and he delighteth in them or 04:31.580 --> 04:37.920 where is the God of judgment? So we have people here where they're just acting like God's not 04:37.920 --> 04:43.880 going to do anything to them. And additionally they're saying that people who do evil are actually 04:43.880 --> 04:49.020 good in the sight of the Lord. And man, if this isn't like seemingly the number one problem we 04:49.020 --> 04:55.140 have in popular culture right now, people look at those who are clearly by every single metric 04:55.960 --> 04:59.700 for somebody that has a brain in their head, anybody that has a brain in their head can 04:59.700 --> 05:04.560 recognize that they're evil and then they say, oh, that person's good. It makes me angry. 05:25.760 --> 05:28.280 Let's look at 1 Kings 12, 1 Kings 12. 05:31.080 --> 05:35.940 Proverbs also tells us when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice. But when the 05:35.940 --> 05:40.880 wicked beareth rule, the people mourn. Hey, there's mourning when wicked people rule. 05:42.080 --> 05:48.480 And that's why I think it's appropriate to mourn for America because the wicked rule 05:48.480 --> 05:53.640 in this country. And what do we have coming from that? You have oppression, you have hard times, 05:53.640 --> 05:58.540 you have evil. And here in 1 Kings 12, when Israel is split into two kingdoms, 05:58.800 --> 06:05.640 Jeroboam establishes a counterfeit religion. And he's known as someone who, his rebellion 06:05.640 --> 06:11.140 is infectious to the rest of the nation. He, in a sense, teaches Israel to commit the same 06:11.140 --> 06:16.700 sins that he's doing and to go down the same path of false religion and rebellion against 06:16.700 --> 06:23.880 God and to sin in the same way. And in 1 Kings 12, look at verse 28, where the Bible reads in 06:23.880 --> 06:28.460 verse 28, whereupon the king took counsel and made two calves of gold and sent unto them, 06:29.040 --> 06:34.020 it is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Behold, thy God's over Israel which brought 06:34.020 --> 06:38.880 thee up out of the land of Egypt. So we have idolatry established in the northern kingdom 06:38.880 --> 06:44.600 of Israel. And the reason why is because Jeroboam doesn't want to lose the influence of 06:44.600 --> 06:50.860 the people. If they were to leave his territory and go down to serve God in Jerusalem in the 06:50.860 --> 06:55.480 southern kingdom of Judah, then they would be far away from him. He would lose their influence. 06:55.700 --> 06:59.980 He would lose authority and power. He doesn't want that. And so in verse 29, notice, 07:00.560 --> 07:07.380 and he set one in Bethel, talking about an idol, which this is, of course, particularly insulting 07:07.380 --> 07:13.120 because this, at one point, is where the presence of God dwelt in Bethel. And the other 07:13.120 --> 07:19.580 put he in Dan. And this thing became a sin for the people went to worship before the one even 07:19.580 --> 07:24.380 under Dan. So you have idols that are set up in Bethel. You have idols that are set up in Dan. 07:24.660 --> 07:31.680 You have counterfeit religion. You have idolatry. Why? Again, Jeroboam doesn't want to lose the 07:31.680 --> 07:37.660 influence of the people. And he didn't want them traveling down to Jerusalem to worship, 07:37.660 --> 07:44.680 but rather staying right where they are. And so when corruption abounds, what comes with it 07:44.680 --> 07:51.120 is false religion. When you have the vilest men exalted, you have false religion that comes 07:51.120 --> 07:57.140 as a result. And in Israel at this time, they did exalt the vilest of men. And you had really 07:57.140 --> 08:02.800 bad leadership and you had bad people running amok, doing whatever it is that their wicked 08:02.800 --> 08:09.620 heart wants to their content. And you have false religion that comes as a result of that. You have 08:09.620 --> 08:15.260 lies elevated as a result of that. And the hearts of our people also have been stolen by the Absaloms of our political 16:42.860 --> 16:47.500 class. And the churches are just, they're not saying anything about it. And it's done unrighteously, stolen from Naboth, and they utilize 17:28.600 --> 17:35.940 sons of Belial to do it. They utilize sons of Belial to falsely accuse Naboth. Let's skip down 17:35.940 --> 17:40.300 to verse 13 and you'll see what I'm talking about. And there came in two men, children of 17:40.300 --> 17:46.540 Belial and sat before him and the men of Belial witnessed against him, even against Naboth 17:46.540 --> 17:51.920 in the presence of the people saying, Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him 17:51.920 --> 17:57.920 forth out of the city and stoned him with stones that he died. So not only is Naboth slandered and 17:57.920 --> 18:04.120 defamed by the sons of Belial, but you also have him getting stoned to death. They steal 18:04.120 --> 18:10.040 his land. Now God does clout up and reign judgment on this situation here, but the 18:10.040 --> 18:15.560 reality is Naboth is killed and it's the result of false witnesses, it's the result of 18:15.560 --> 18:20.940 the sons of Belial. And it reminds me of the Lord Jesus Christ who also was falsely accused 18:20.940 --> 18:26.600 by children of the devil and eventually he died on the cross as a result of that. 18:27.560 --> 18:33.280 But we see a pattern in Scripture and in reality as well in the everyday world that we can observe 18:33.280 --> 18:38.420 which is that the ruling class, they utilize the sons of Belial to do their dirty work. 18:38.640 --> 18:43.540 Jezebel is no exception. Jezebel, the face of feminism and 18:44.820 --> 18:51.080 you know, she gently led Ahab and you know stirred him up to do all kinds of evil, 18:51.440 --> 18:57.340 all kinds of horrifying things to afflict the just, to afflict somebody like Naboth and steal 18:57.340 --> 19:03.160 his vineyard. So what does this really tell us? It tells us that when you have a culture that 19:03.160 --> 19:09.460 has exalted the vilest of men, you have innocent bloodshed. You have Jezebel in authority. So 19:09.460 --> 19:14.120 what do you have? You have sons of Belial utilized to steal from an innocent man 19:14.120 --> 19:19.780 his property, his vineyard. Look at 2 Chronicles 28, 2 Chronicles 28. 19:21.220 --> 19:27.560 When the vilest of men are exalted you have innocent bloodshed in a nation. This is no 19:27.560 --> 19:34.700 exception. We see that here where the sons of Belial falsely accused Naboth and what 19:34.700 --> 19:40.000 happens in every society that goes down this road is the sons of Belial end up running up 19:40.000 --> 19:46.620 and down the streets doing the bidding of the establishment and defiling people and taking 19:46.620 --> 19:53.540 innocent lives and all kinds of things. The Bible says all they that hate me love death. 19:54.420 --> 19:59.860 If that's the culture that a society then a nation embraces then don't be surprised if death 19:59.860 --> 20:06.500 is what comes from it. 2 Chronicles 28 look at verse 3. This is also what happens when the vilest 20:06.500 --> 20:11.760 men are exalted. Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hennom and burnt his 20:11.760 --> 20:18.000 children in the fire after the abominations of the heathen whom the Lord had cast out 20:18.000 --> 20:23.580 before the children of Israel. So this is talking about Ahaz. He practices false religion but 20:23.580 --> 20:33.360 what else do we notice? He burned his children in the fire. This human child sacrifice that we see 20:33.360 --> 20:41.980 here and the Bible tells us that this act was after the abominations of the heathen. You had 20:41.980 --> 20:47.360 heathen nations that didn't worship God that wanted nothing to do with the God of the Bible 20:47.360 --> 20:54.520 that believed in a false satanic religion and they're literally burning their children in the fire 20:54.520 --> 21:00.060 to their false God and you have Ahaz doing the same thing in a nation that's supposed to be God's 21:00.060 --> 21:06.700 people. That's what we have going on here. But here's the question. How does a country, 21:06.900 --> 21:11.080 how does a nation get to this point? How does it get to the point where you have some woman 21:11.580 --> 21:17.340 using children of the devil to falsely accuse and kill an innocent man to take his field? We'll read it again. 23:27.840 --> 23:36.960 Psalm 12 and verse eight, the Bible says, the wicked walk on every side when the vilest men 23:36.960 --> 23:43.400 are exalted. So when society elevates trash, what do you get? You get the wicked walking on every 23:43.400 --> 23:49.000 side, meaning you're surrounded by wicked people everywhere you look. Here's the answer about what we should do to respond. 56:50.460 --> 56:54.760 The Bible says, The words of the Lord are pure words as silver tried in a furnace of earth 56:54.760 --> 57:01.860 purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O Lord. Thou shalt preserve them from this generation 57:01.860 --> 57:10.780 forever. We have a promise here. Just as sure as God will preserve his words is just as sure as 57:10.780 --> 57:17.480 he's going to preserve the oppressed poor in this chapter. I think these two concepts mirror each 57:17.480 --> 57:26.060 other. And so even if we live in a world where the vilest men are exalted, there is a promise from 57:26.060 --> 57:30.980 God for us. Yeah, it's getting dangerous out there. I get it. But there is a promise from God 57:30.980 --> 57:36.760 that he's going to preserve. Not just the oppressed poor, but I think there's a way to 57:36.760 --> 57:43.040 sort of provide a spiritual truth that we can derive from this chapter. Let's look at Matthew 57:43.040 --> 57:46.220 6. That'll be the last place I have you turn. Matthew 6 and then I'll wrap it up. 57:48.940 --> 57:53.900 The Bible says, Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. And this is a 57:53.900 --> 58:00.580 very famous portion of the Beatitudes in which Jesus says, Blessed are the poor in spirit. 58:00.980 --> 58:08.580 Why? Why would he say that? Well, think about it this way. Poor people out of the abundance of 58:08.580 --> 58:15.540 necessity because they are in a position of being needy. They have a mentality that says 58:15.540 --> 58:22.040 they're going to rely on somebody else to help them. They have an attitude of reliance, 58:22.420 --> 58:29.500 an attitude of dependence. Blessed are the poor in spirit. Meaning what? Hey, if individuals 58:29.500 --> 58:35.120 have that same attitude of dependence and reliance, you know what? Hey, that's going to lend 58:35.120 --> 58:40.880 itself to salvation because what is salvation? It's believing on the Lord Jesus Christ, 58:42.280 --> 58:47.100 relying, depending on him to get you to heaven. That's one way you could look at that Beatitude. 58:47.600 --> 58:53.360 But we should also have, I think, that same attitude of dependence, reliance on God, 58:53.660 --> 58:57.660 not just for salvation. I'm talking to a saved audience tonight. All right? You've done 58:57.660 --> 59:02.180 God saved, D at the end. I get it. We're all saved. I understand that. So we need to take 59:02.180 --> 59:06.960 that same attitude that we had about salvation, the gospel, believing on the Lord Jesus Christ, 59:07.160 --> 59:12.020 and have that same attitude about every other aspect of our life, and have that same attitude 59:12.020 --> 59:17.660 about our physical preservation as well. In spite of the fact that the vilest men are being exalted, 59:17.740 --> 59:22.860 we need to make sure that we show and demonstrate faith in God, faith in His promises, that He 59:22.860 --> 59:27.040 will physically preserve us, even if this world is on a bobsled to hell. 59:28.580 --> 59:30.200 You know, the song of Moses says, 59:30.380 --> 59:34.500 The Lord is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation. He is my God, 59:34.760 --> 59:40.700 and I will prepare Him a habitation, my Father's God, and I will exalt Him. You say, 59:40.760 --> 59:47.700 What do we do about the fact that the vilest men are being exalted today? We respond by exalting 59:47.700 --> 59:54.400 Jesus Christ. We exalt the Lord Jesus Christ. We exalt the God of the Bible. We exalt the 59:54.400 --> 01:00:00.000 Word of God in response. The Bible says, Thou art my God, and I will praise thee.
