WEBVTT 00:00.000 --> 00:05.680 After Matthew chapter 13 this morning is the mysteries of the kingdom. 00:07.500 --> 00:13.640 Matthew chapter 13 is a very interesting chapter in that it is the chapter that has the most 00:13.640 --> 00:18.920 concentrated amount of parables out of all of the chapters of the gospels. 00:19.200 --> 00:24.480 As the most in fact it has about seven to eight parables, eight if you consider the 00:24.480 --> 00:29.500 last portion a parable doesn't necessarily say that it is but it kind of functions 00:29.500 --> 00:33.540 as one he's still using it as an illustration but for the sake of the 00:33.540 --> 00:38.940 sermon we're going to go over at least the first six and I've already preached 00:38.940 --> 00:42.740 through the first parable which is the parable of the seed and the sower. It's 00:42.740 --> 00:46.340 very interesting parable that essentially demonstrates that the Word of God 00:46.340 --> 00:51.140 which is the seed is sown into various hearts. We see four types of hearts that 00:51.140 --> 00:55.660 the seed is sown and this essentially represents the way people receive the 00:55.660 --> 01:00.500 Word of God and out of those four three actually get saved but out of those three 01:00.500 --> 01:04.380 only one actually bears fruit and so that is the first parable. Look at verse 01:04.380 --> 01:07.960 24 now let me give you some introductory statements before we get into the 01:07.960 --> 01:12.600 actual parables themselves. First and foremost what is a parable? Well in other 01:12.600 --> 01:17.900 portions of the gospels we have it being spoken of as a dark saying meaning 01:17.900 --> 01:22.960 that it is obscure okay meaning that it's somewhat enigmatic meaning that 01:22.960 --> 01:27.700 the Lord Jesus Christ is illustrating a spiritual truth through a story and 01:27.700 --> 01:31.200 he's not necessarily divulging all the information or the interpretation 01:31.200 --> 01:35.860 thereof to the multitudes. Why? Because there's instances where people who are 01:35.860 --> 01:39.520 listening to the parable don't I'm not really interested in hearing the Word 01:39.520 --> 01:44.160 of God. They're not really interested in obeying the Word so God gives them a 01:44.160 --> 01:48.580 parable a dark saying and keeps them in a purity. He keeps them in 01:48.580 --> 01:52.720 confusion and he gives the interpretation to his disciples and in fact 01:52.720 --> 01:59.380 you're in verse 24 look at verse number 35 if you would verse 34 excuse me says 01:59.380 --> 02:03.020 all these things speak Jesus unto the multitude in parables and without a 02:03.020 --> 02:06.460 parable speak he not unto them that it might be fulfilled which was spoken 02:06.460 --> 02:10.720 by the prophet saying I will open my mouth in parables I will utter things 02:10.720 --> 02:16.040 which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world and so 02:16.040 --> 02:19.340 sometimes he's just preaching to them in parables given these illustrations 02:19.340 --> 02:24.220 later on as disciples would come and say hey what exactly does that mean and he 02:24.220 --> 02:28.520 would open that interpretation. Now this is showing us that if we really want 02:28.520 --> 02:32.620 the truth we'll get the truth because quite frankly what's stopping the 02:32.620 --> 02:36.260 multitude from coming to Jesus and saying hey you gave this illustration 02:36.260 --> 02:40.540 I don't really understand it can you divulge the info to me the truth to 02:40.540 --> 02:44.360 me can you give me the interpretation thereof but obviously many of them 02:44.360 --> 02:49.160 didn't the only people who actually came to Jesus after he preached the parables 02:49.160 --> 02:53.600 were the disciples themselves so this shows us that if we really want the 02:53.600 --> 02:57.940 truth if we really want the interpretation of the Bible God will 02:57.940 --> 03:01.460 give it to us if you really want it so I don't understand the Bible it's 03:01.460 --> 03:03.800 because you don't want to understand the Bible now obviously there's 03:03.800 --> 03:08.400 instances where it takes years of studying the Word of God and getting 03:08.400 --> 03:12.100 these deep meanings of the Bible in order to understand the interpretation 03:12.100 --> 03:18.500 thereof but in general if you hunger for truth if you want the truth if you 03:18.500 --> 03:23.560 have an appetite for the truth if you seek after it if you pray for it you 03:23.560 --> 03:27.420 knock on the door for it you ask for it God will give it to you because he wants 03:27.420 --> 03:31.700 you to have the truth and so he kind of puts out the parable just to kind 03:31.700 --> 03:34.840 of wet the appetite of the multitude and whoever wants the truth can have 03:34.840 --> 03:38.780 it but they just have to come through Jesus and get the interpretation 03:38.780 --> 03:41.780 through him another thing I want to mention here is that when we talk 03:41.780 --> 03:46.340 about the kingdom of God what is that referring to well the kingdom of God is 03:46.340 --> 03:50.700 synonymous with the kingdom of heaven these are not mutually exclusive they're 03:50.700 --> 03:56.400 basically used interchangeably in the Gospels and really it could be referring 03:56.400 --> 04:01.060 to a variety of things okay it can talk about for example salvation it can be 04:01.060 --> 04:05.860 talking about the gospel or it can simply be talking about God's economy 04:05.860 --> 04:11.580 on how the spiritual world works for the believer it can be referring to the 04:11.580 --> 04:16.020 rewards we get when we get to heaven okay this is essentially what the kingdom 04:16.020 --> 04:19.180 of God and the kingdom of heaven is referring to and this is something we're 04:19.180 --> 04:23.640 going to see in this particular sermon look at verse 26 if you would I'm sorry 04:23.640 --> 04:29.320 verse 24 it says another parable put he forth unto them saying the kingdom of 04:29.320 --> 04:34.600 heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field but while 04:34.600 --> 04:40.120 men slept his enemy came and so tears among the wheat and went his way so 04:40.120 --> 04:45.340 this is the parable of the tears among the wheat another way of saying tear is 04:45.340 --> 04:51.120 essentially a weed okay and the problem with weeds is that it looks exactly like 04:51.120 --> 04:54.840 a wheat okay and this is the problem we're actually seeing here in the 04:54.840 --> 05:00.580 parable look at verse 26 it says but when the blade it was sprung up and brought 05:00.580 --> 05:05.880 forth fruit then appeared the tears also so the servant of the householder came 05:05.880 --> 05:11.200 and said unto him sir this not thou so good seed in thy field from Winston hath 05:11.200 --> 05:17.060 it tears he said unto them an enemy hath done this the servants said unto him 05:17.060 --> 05:22.040 wilt out them that we go and gather them up but he said name less while you 05:22.040 --> 05:27.100 gather up the tears ye root up also the wheat with them so we hate the 05:27.100 --> 05:31.800 parable that we're seeing here is that a man a farmer is sowing seeds in 05:31.800 --> 05:38.520 wheat but while it is produced tears come up also weeds come up also and it's 05:38.520 --> 05:42.220 mixed in with the wheat so the servants come and they're kind of shocked at this 05:42.220 --> 05:45.720 they're just like hey I thought you sow good seed he says I did but the enemy 05:45.720 --> 05:49.580 must have sowed in bad seed and now look at the solution here he says in verse 05:49.580 --> 05:54.680 30 let both grow together until the harvest and at the time of harvest I 05:54.680 --> 05:58.260 will say to the reapers gather you together first the tears bind them in 05:58.260 --> 06:02.840 bundles to burn them but gather the reed the wheat into my barn skip down to verse 06:02.840 --> 06:09.000 36 where we have the interpretation of the parable it says here verse 36 Jesus 06:09.000 --> 06:13.340 sent into the multitude excuse me Jesus sent the multitude away and went into 06:13.340 --> 06:16.300 the house and his disciples came unto him saying declare unto us the parable 06:16.300 --> 06:20.060 of the tears of the field he answered and said to them he that sowed the 06:20.060 --> 06:24.840 good seed is the son of man the field is the world the good seed are the 06:24.840 --> 06:29.460 children of the kingdom but the tears are the children of the wicked one what's 06:29.460 --> 06:33.400 interesting about this is the the parable previous to this one is the parable of 06:33.400 --> 06:37.480 the seed in the sower and the seed represents the word of God whereas in 06:37.480 --> 06:43.080 this parable the seed actually represents saved people children of God okay 06:43.080 --> 06:48.160 and it specifically says here that God is the one who planted them he's the 06:48.160 --> 06:51.880 one that sowed these seeds he's the one that planted them and of course the 06:51.880 --> 06:55.920 tears as it says here are the children of the wicked one now what does that 06:55.920 --> 07:01.320 refer to exactly what does it mean to be a child of the wicked one this isn't 07:01.320 --> 07:06.200 just referring to just unsafe people in general okay and in fact when you 07:06.200 --> 07:10.160 study the New Testament this is also found in the old but more specifically 07:10.820 --> 07:16.080 and in depth in the new you actually find a variety of labels for unsafe 07:16.080 --> 07:19.020 people okay obviously we know that safe people are referred to as the 07:19.020 --> 07:23.900 children of God you know the children of the kingdom but when it comes to unsafe 07:23.900 --> 07:28.840 people they're often referred to as children of disobedience children of 07:28.840 --> 07:33.080 wrath the Bible says right we see this in Ephesians chapter 2 you have the 07:33.080 --> 07:36.440 quicken who were dead in trespasses and sin wherein in time past he walked 07:36.440 --> 07:39.340 according to the course of this world according to the prince of power the 07:39.340 --> 07:44.020 air the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience now why 07:44.020 --> 07:47.720 does it call unsafe people children of disobedience well because of the 07:47.720 --> 07:53.300 fact that we disobey God's laws okay you know the carnal mind is not subject to 07:53.300 --> 07:57.980 God neither indeed or is not subject to the law of God neither indeed can be 07:57.980 --> 08:03.380 according to Romans chapter number eight okay but the Bible also calls unsafe 08:03.380 --> 08:08.940 people children of wrath why because an unsafe person is under the wrath of God 08:08.940 --> 08:14.100 John 3 36 says he that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life he that 08:14.100 --> 08:18.620 believeth not the Son shall not see life listen to this but the wrath of God 08:18.620 --> 08:23.940 abideeth on him so there are essentially people we were that people that were 08:23.940 --> 08:27.600 under God's wrath because of our disobedience to God this doesn't mean 08:27.600 --> 08:30.420 we're without hope right God is not willing that any should perish but 08:30.420 --> 08:34.420 that all should come to repentance and God commands all men everywhere to 08:34.420 --> 08:37.800 repent and what that means is that he wants people to come to the saving 08:37.800 --> 08:42.420 knowledge of Jesus Christ he wants him to stop placing their faith in their 08:42.420 --> 08:46.500 works their dead works and place their faith in Jesus Christ exclusively for 08:46.500 --> 08:51.000 salvation at which point you become a child of God you know the Bible says in 08:51.000 --> 08:55.480 John 1 12 but as many as received him to them gave you power to become the 08:55.480 --> 09:00.200 sons of God even unto them that believe on his name for Sean chapter 3 verse 1 09:00.200 --> 09:03.700 says behold what banner of love the Father have bestowed upon us that we 09:03.700 --> 09:09.120 should be called the sons of God so in the New Testament we find safe people 09:09.120 --> 09:13.180 being referred to as the children of God through faith in Christ unsafe people 09:13.180 --> 09:17.140 are referred to as children of disobedience children of wrath or simply 09:17.140 --> 09:23.500 this the natural man right first Corinthians chapter 2 says but the 09:23.500 --> 09:27.420 natural man listen to this receive it's not the things of the Spirit of God 09:27.420 --> 09:31.960 for their foolishness unto him unto him neither can he know them because 09:31.960 --> 09:35.520 they're spiritually discerned now why does the Bible call the unsafe 09:35.520 --> 09:40.620 person a natural man well because he is absent of the supernatural he doesn't 09:40.620 --> 09:44.140 have the new man abiding within him he doesn't have the Spirit of God abiding 09:44.140 --> 09:48.940 within him therefore according to biblical standards he is a natural man 09:48.940 --> 09:54.100 without God okay he's without God without Christ in the world he is 09:54.100 --> 09:59.240 alien from the Commonwealth of Israel and so forth and so and by the way 09:59.240 --> 10:03.060 you know side note here this is why we should never go to unsafe people to 10:03.060 --> 10:08.020 in the Bible she never will listen to unsafe preachers you know on unsafe 10:08.020 --> 10:11.980 people who try to interpret the Bible why because the natural man receive it's not 10:11.980 --> 10:15.300 the things of the Spirit of God they can't understand it and look folks and 10:15.300 --> 10:19.340 I'm talking about people who claim to be Christians I'm talking about people who 10:19.340 --> 10:24.460 claim to be saved we got to know what they believe about salvation just 10:24.460 --> 10:28.400 because they talk about Jesus they talk about the Bible they claim to teach 10:28.400 --> 10:32.360 doctrine they went to a seminary they went to a Bible college doesn't mean 10:32.360 --> 10:35.440 they're saved you say well how do you know they're saved if they believe in the 10:35.440 --> 10:41.940 right gospel which is salvation by grace through faith alone plus nothing minus 10:41.940 --> 10:46.680 nothing if there's a pastor out there that does not hold to the biblical 10:46.680 --> 10:51.120 doctrine of justification according to biblical standards that person's not 10:51.120 --> 10:55.600 saved how can you just say that people are not saved the Bible does it all 10:55.600 --> 11:00.560 the time it literally holds the standard gives us the standard of what 11:00.560 --> 11:04.980 it means to be saved if a person does not meet that standard it automatically 11:04.980 --> 11:08.760 means they're not saved in God's eyes and they shouldn't we should not consider 11:08.760 --> 11:13.260 them saved as well okay and so there's children of wrath there's children of 11:13.260 --> 11:18.400 disobedience okay but then you have a separate category known as the 11:18.400 --> 11:24.200 children of the devil the children of the wicked one okay now you think 11:24.200 --> 11:28.480 you know I've heard of the children of the devil that sounds familiar you 11:28.480 --> 11:33.860 know obviously we often associate that with John 844 ye are of your father the 11:33.860 --> 11:37.480 devil the less of your father when you do when Jesus Christ was preaching against 11:37.480 --> 11:42.400 the Jews and it's very much accurate to say that that's what applies to but in 11:42.400 --> 11:45.640 its primary context who is he saying this to he's saying this to false 11:45.640 --> 11:50.060 teachers he's saying this to the Pharisees who were Jews right and he's 11:50.060 --> 11:54.260 saying that they're the children of the devil okay this is referring to a 11:54.260 --> 11:59.400 person who has been exposed to the truth they've been exposed to the right 11:59.400 --> 12:05.260 gospel and they still refuse it okay now there's various names for these types of 12:05.260 --> 12:09.700 people as we see here they're called the children of the wicked one and John 844 12:09.700 --> 12:14.260 children of the devil in the Old Testament the common label is sons of 12:14.260 --> 12:19.780 Belial daughters of Belial men of Belial Bible also uses the term 12:19.780 --> 12:23.800 reprobate in order to describe these individuals and what does reprobate 12:23.800 --> 12:29.220 mean it means someone who is beyond the hope of salvation you say are you saying 12:29.220 --> 12:32.360 that there's people that can no longer be saved that's exactly what I'm saying 12:32.940 --> 12:36.500 okay and it's not the majority of the population this is referring to 12:36.500 --> 12:40.280 individuals who've been exposed there they've been in close proximity to the 12:40.280 --> 12:44.820 truth they've rejected it and become aggressively antagonistic towards the 12:44.820 --> 12:49.520 truth and towards Christ therefore God makes them a reprobate and the Bible 12:49.520 --> 12:54.800 even says we see it in Matthew 13 that they they close their eyes they close 12:54.800 --> 12:59.720 their ears lest they should be converted and then in John chapter 12 it says that 12:59.720 --> 13:03.860 God is the one who closes their eyes God is the one who closes their ears why 13:03.860 --> 13:10.460 because their rejection of the truth is so severe is so brazen that God ends 13:10.460 --> 13:14.360 up aiding them and their rejection of the truth as well by giving them a 13:14.360 --> 13:18.380 reprobate mind according to Roman chapter 1 so it's important for us to 13:18.380 --> 13:22.240 make the distinction between these groups what we're looking at here in Matthew 13:22.240 --> 13:27.680 13 when it says that Satan sowed the children of the wicked okay these 13:27.680 --> 13:32.460 tears is not referring to just unsafe people it's referring to godless 13:32.460 --> 13:37.740 reprobates children of the devil okay and you're like man I just that's 13:37.740 --> 13:40.300 crazy you said some people can't get saved well obviously we believe that a 13:40.300 --> 13:44.100 lot of people get saved because we're an evangelistic church that does our 13:44.100 --> 13:47.500 due diligence to go out and preach the gospel we're just saying that the 13:47.500 --> 13:50.180 Bible explicitly teaches that there are certain group of people that cannot be 13:50.180 --> 13:55.260 saved not because they were born that way because no one is born not being able to 13:55.260 --> 14:00.480 be saved salvation is made available to all okay but they are made reprobate 14:00.480 --> 14:05.040 later on if they choose to reject the truth to such an extent that they 14:05.040 --> 14:10.320 become enemies of the cross of Christ as the Bible puts it okay so when he 14:10.320 --> 14:13.560 says here the field is the world the good seed are the children of the 14:13.560 --> 14:16.980 kingdom but the tears of the children of the wicked one we have a major 14:16.980 --> 14:21.920 contrast here between righteous save people and then the wicked one which are 14:21.920 --> 14:28.780 reprobates okay very extreme sides of the pendulum here right of the spectrum he 14:28.780 --> 14:34.180 says of verse 39 the enemy that sowed them is the devil the harvest is the 14:34.180 --> 14:38.280 end of the world and the reapers are the angels as therefore the tears are 14:38.280 --> 14:42.320 gathered and burned into the fire so shall I be in the end of the world so 14:42.320 --> 14:45.820 let me give you the primary interpretation of this parable and then we're 14:45.820 --> 14:49.940 going to get into some secondary applications to it okay now in general 14:49.940 --> 14:54.640 I've often interpreted this parable to simply mean that Satan comes and he 14:54.640 --> 14:59.520 sows tears in churches and different Christian organizations and that's 14:59.520 --> 15:05.060 very much a reliable interpretation a secondary reliable interpretation let me 15:05.060 --> 15:08.220 give you the primary application of this because it specifically tells us 15:08.220 --> 15:12.440 when this happens it says that it takes place when in the end of the 15:12.440 --> 15:21.040 world okay and it says here that the reapers who are the angels gather the 15:21.040 --> 15:24.820 with the children of the wicked and then they are cast into the furnace to be 15:24.820 --> 15:28.920 burned the furnace is obviously referring to hell okay now if you know 15:28.920 --> 15:33.660 anything about end times Bible prophecy you know that this specifically 15:33.660 --> 15:39.100 takes place after the millennial reign of Jesus Christ at the what after the 15:39.100 --> 15:45.280 battle of Gog and Magog at the white throne judgments okay so I submit to you 15:45.280 --> 15:51.020 that this parable of the tear sewn among the wheat is actually referring to the 15:51.020 --> 15:56.160 millennial reign of Jesus Christ because you have the children of the kingdom 15:56.160 --> 16:00.660 in the millennial reign but then you also have children of the wicked in the 16:00.660 --> 16:04.260 millennial reign as well say how do you know because at the end of those 16:04.260 --> 16:09.940 thousand years you have Satan being released right from the bottomless pit 16:09.940 --> 16:15.340 and then he goes to deceive the nations he gathers them together in order to 16:15.340 --> 16:19.620 fight against Christ and against his people and what happens to them well 16:20.180 --> 16:24.900 obviously they lose really bad okay you know it's like Conor McGregor are 16:24.900 --> 16:27.680 trying to kick you know it was one of those it was just no it was just 16:27.680 --> 16:32.860 really it's just it's an embarrassing moment for the devil and his children 16:32.860 --> 16:39.560 okay you know basically they go and they surround the holy city and fire comes 16:39.560 --> 16:43.280 down and consumes them and destroys them and what happens there after you have 16:43.280 --> 16:47.700 the white throne judgment where the reapers who are the angels gather them 16:47.700 --> 16:53.320 and then they're cast into the lake of fire look what it goes on to say in verse 16:53.320 --> 16:58.540 number 42 again it says and shall cast them into the furnace of fire there 16:58.540 --> 17:02.300 shall be weeping excuse me there should be wailing and gnashing of teeth 17:02.300 --> 17:06.920 that is a phrase is commonly used to describe the lake of fire right hell but 17:06.920 --> 17:11.780 I want you to notice verse 43 then shall the righteous shine forth as the son 17:11.780 --> 17:17.560 where in the kingdom of their father you see the millennial reign is the 17:17.560 --> 17:21.900 kingdoms of our Lord and of his Christ but after the millennial reign he gives 17:21.900 --> 17:26.740 the kingdom unto who the father and therefore after the millennial reign 17:26.740 --> 17:30.820 after the white throne judgment the children of the kingdom go into the 17:30.820 --> 17:38.020 kingdom of the father referring to what the new heaven and the new earth okay so 17:38.020 --> 17:42.820 what the Bible is telling us here is that even amongst them in the millennial 17:42.820 --> 17:50.620 reign where politics is on our side we have Jesus Christ as the king right we 17:50.620 --> 17:57.020 have the most righteous individual that could ever exist on this world ruling 17:57.020 --> 18:03.380 with the rod of iron executing you know great policies great laws everything is 18:03.380 --> 18:09.360 just awesome it's a utopian society for Christians even then you have the children 18:09.360 --> 18:15.720 of the wicked one you see the principle here is that it's not until sin is 18:15.720 --> 18:20.720 just completely removed out of the picture is everything fine and dandy it 18:20.720 --> 18:25.700 doesn't matter who you get into the white house who you get into the 18:25.700 --> 18:30.460 government who you get as a mayor who you get as a politician the society is 18:30.460 --> 18:33.960 always going to be corrupt why because sin is always present because the problem 18:33.960 --> 18:37.940 is not politics actually that is a major problem but you know the 18:37.940 --> 18:43.160 problem the major problem the main problem is sin we live in a corruptible 18:43.160 --> 18:50.260 world okay and to prove that you have Jesus Christ ruling for a thousand 18:50.260 --> 18:55.680 years and yet after those thousand years you still have idiots they're 18:55.680 --> 19:02.000 yeah I think we could take Jesus I think we can I think we got a chance even 19:02.000 --> 19:06.060 though a thousand years prior my friends listen to me a thousand years prior to 19:06.060 --> 19:11.840 that you have what the battle of Armageddon where the Antichrist and his 19:11.840 --> 19:16.320 false prophet and their armies fight against Jesus Christ and his armies 19:16.320 --> 19:22.460 coming from the clouds and they get smoked and it's not even like it's 19:22.460 --> 19:26.840 not even close like the Lord just comes down and snatches their souls and he 19:26.840 --> 19:32.000 just throws them into hell and then he just he just mercs everyone I mean the 19:32.000 --> 19:35.180 Bible literally says that the blood was to the bridle of the horses how about 19:35.180 --> 19:40.980 that I mean it's a major slaughter there's just no chance okay but yet a 19:40.980 --> 19:45.760 thousand years later the descendants of these individuals the children of the 19:45.760 --> 19:50.400 wicked one think that they can actually handle Christ and destroy 19:50.400 --> 19:55.660 them they're under such a strong delusion which by the way a strong delusion is a 19:55.660 --> 20:00.540 characteristic of the wicked one God gives them strong delusions he gives them 20:00.540 --> 20:05.420 that they should believe a lie and be damned the Bible says and so we have 20:05.420 --> 20:08.740 here a parable that's really demonstrating what's going to take 20:08.740 --> 20:13.600 place in the end of the world this is what it's referring to now go back 20:13.600 --> 20:19.560 to verse 25 if you would now how do we apply this like well I'm not even 20:19.560 --> 20:24.620 I mean I'm gonna be their pastor but how's that applicable to me like you were 20:24.620 --> 20:27.880 gonna be the millennial we're already saved well this is how we can apply it 20:27.880 --> 20:33.800 because this really applies throughout all ages because tears are being sown in 20:34.520 --> 20:39.260 this world throughout all generations right and we can apply to our church 20:39.260 --> 20:43.400 we can apply to churches in general we can apply to the world that Satan is 20:43.400 --> 20:52.580 constantly sowing the wicked amongst the righteous he says in verse 26 and here's 20:52.580 --> 20:56.340 why that's dangerous but when the blade was sprung up and brought forth fruit 20:56.340 --> 21:00.940 then appeared the tears also now what's the problem with you like well just 21:00.940 --> 21:04.280 remove the tears if there's false profit just remove it well here's the 21:04.280 --> 21:08.580 problem they look like the wheat though I mean the Bible says in Matthew 21:08.580 --> 21:13.820 chapter 7 that false prophets are
