Okay. They're still guilty of murder. It talks about them lying in wait 00:41.790 --> 00:43.930 waiting presumptuously 00:43.930 --> 00:46.270 slaying him with guile 00:46.270 --> 00:49.690 This is these are all phrases that involve what we would call today 00:50.430 --> 00:57.610 Premeditated murder and according to the Bible the person who commits these things is surely put to death. It's a capital crime 00:57.630 --> 01:02.090 That it merits the death penalty according to the Bible go to Daniel chapter 4 if you would 01:02.090 --> 01:06.590 Daniel chapter number 4. I'm gonna read you a lot of verses here in my introduction 01:07.270 --> 01:11.550 Regarding the sermon here before we get into Daniel chapter 4 my main points 01:11.550 --> 01:15.470 But let's just talk about the death penalty for just a second number one 01:15.470 --> 01:18.830 Let me start off by saying that we as Christians should be pro death penalty 01:18.830 --> 01:21.830 Okay, meaning that we should believe in justice 01:21.830 --> 01:28.630 We believe that the Bible teaches that if a person commits a capital crime that according to God according to his word 01:28.630 --> 01:29.850 Which is our final authority? 01:30.290 --> 01:34.770 They merit the death penalty and no we don't need to figure out whether the person was 01:34.770 --> 01:41.890 Mentally sane or not because according to the Bible the mosaic law does not carve out insanity as being excused to kill people 01:41.890 --> 01:47.450 Okay, you're still held culpable for your crime if you have 01:47.450 --> 01:53.490 Committed murder and even if you think you were insane even if you think you were not in your right mind at the moment 01:53.490 --> 01:58.450 It doesn't matter according to the Bible and it's important for us as Christians to have that worldview 01:58.450 --> 02:05.810 Okay, to understand that this is what the Bible teaches and not allow your emotions to get involved in situations and think to yourself 02:05.810 --> 02:09.370 Well, I know that's what the Bible says, but I just feel well 02:09.370 --> 02:15.230 There's your problem Bible says lean not unto thine own understanding and all thy ways acknowledge him 02:15.230 --> 02:20.550 And he shall direct thy path. It's important for us to recognize that sometimes our emotions can deceive us 02:20.550 --> 02:22.750 The heart is deceitful above all things 02:22.750 --> 02:28.950 Desperately wicked who can know it and so the Bible tells us that because our hearts are often 02:29.590 --> 02:30.770 susceptible to deception 02:30.770 --> 02:37.470 We need to make sure that we govern our hearts according to the Bible and sometimes the Bible goes against the grain of what we 02:37.470 --> 02:40.250 Believe sometimes the Bible rubs us the wrong way 02:40.250 --> 02:45.070 But folks let me just remind you it is the final authority and we need to side with what the Bible says 02:45.070 --> 02:48.710 And if you read the Bible and see what the Bible says regarding something and it 02:49.490 --> 02:54.230 Contradicts what you believe it just kind of goes to show you that you've been conditioned to believe a certain way 02:54.650 --> 02:57.430 Contrary to the word of God and you need to be brainwashed 02:58.270 --> 03:02.730 Okay, you need you need your brain to be washed from the filth of this world 03:02.730 --> 03:06.570 The Bible says be not conformed to this world, but be 03:07.450 --> 03:10.610 Transformed by the renewing of your mind the Bible says, okay 03:10.610 --> 03:16.130 And so it's important for us to recognize that you're like, oh man just the death penalty just sounds so bad though 03:16.130 --> 03:20.470 Like is that Christ's like is that really in the Bible and the answer is yes 03:21.310 --> 03:27.310 The reason you don't know that is because whatever church you've gone to whatever pastor you listen to never talks about it 03:27.310 --> 03:30.090 always stays out of the Old Testament always, you know 03:30.750 --> 03:37.130 You know forbids themselves from talking about controversial things and so it's important for us to preach the entire counsel of God 03:37.130 --> 03:42.050 So you can have a plenary understanding of what the Bible says regarding these issues 03:42.050 --> 03:45.170 Let me read you a couple verses here before we go to Daniel chapter 4 03:45.170 --> 03:53.650 Numbers 35 verse 20 says this but if he thrust him of hatred or hurl at him by lying of weight that he died or 03:54.250 --> 04:00.190 In enmity smite him with his hand that he died he that smote him shall surely be put to death 04:00.190 --> 04:02.410 Listen to this for he is a murderer 04:03.470 --> 04:09.930 The revengeer of blood shall slay the murderer when he meeteth him. Well, that's in the law though pastor 04:09.930 --> 04:16.550 We're not under the law. Well, actually the death penalty existed even prior to the mosaic law being instituted 04:17.090 --> 04:20.770 Genesis chapter 9 verse 6 says this Genesis which comes before 04:20.770 --> 04:26.690 Exodus which comes before the mosaic law God said this who so shed of man's blood 04:26.690 --> 04:33.030 By man shall his blood be shed for an image of God made he him the Bible says 04:33.030 --> 04:37.630 The Bible is telling us here that if a person murders another individual takes their life 04:37.630 --> 04:43.490 According to the Bible by man's blood a man shall shed his shed his blood and murder that 04:43.490 --> 04:47.870 But not murder but kill that person put them to death for the crime that they've committed 04:47.870 --> 04:52.090 Okay, there's no question that God demands the death penalty for those who commit capital crimes 04:52.090 --> 04:56.490 You say well, okay, you've proven that from Genesis, but what would Jesus say? 04:58.090 --> 05:02.410 What about Jesus that's a that's a big thing, you know the New Testament, okay? 05:02.690 --> 05:08.270 Well, you know Jesus said in Matthew 7 10 to honor your father and mother who so cursed at this father mother let him die the death 05:09.370 --> 05:10.110 That's Jesus 05:10.930 --> 05:12.570 But somehow that's not good enough, huh? 05:13.510 --> 05:18.030 Somehow once you call what Jesus said is like well, you know, I still don't think so it doesn't really matter 05:18.030 --> 05:22.730 How many verses we give people how much evidence we provide at the end of the day? 05:22.730 --> 05:24.550 Usually those don't like what the Bible says 05:25.430 --> 05:30.650 So Moses says it God said it Jesus Christ said it, you know 05:30.650 --> 05:35.070 Various people throughout the Bible were for this they were for the mosaic law 05:35.070 --> 05:39.570 It's up to us as Christians to just embrace it and recognize that this is what the Bible teaches now 05:39.570 --> 05:45.730 It's important for us to make the clarification here that we're not saying the Christians should go out and put people to death 05:45.730 --> 05:49.190 Okay, that's absurd that's nonsensical and you're like well 05:49.190 --> 05:51.310 We live in a society that doesn't really promote the death penalty 05:51.310 --> 05:54.630 So it's kind of irrelevant to say someone deserves the death penalty 05:54.630 --> 05:57.750 No, because the Bible teaches us that we should still preach the counsel of God 05:57.750 --> 06:02.750 Yeah, and when we preach about certain capital crimes deserving the death penalty 06:02.750 --> 06:07.830 It helps people to realize that there are sins and then there are certain sins that are exceedingly sinful 06:07.830 --> 06:10.770 There are certain sins that are not just sinful 06:10.770 --> 06:17.510 They're crimes in the eyes of God to the point where God says this person has forfeited 06:17.510 --> 06:20.770 They're right to live and therefore they should be put to death. That's what the Bible teaches 08:28.690 --> 08:34.790 So this morning I want to preach on the subject of insanity and the fact that it still makes you culpable 08:34.790 --> 08:42.550 So let's just say for let's just say hypothetically that she was mentally insane and I do believe she's cuckoo for sure. I 08:42.550 --> 08:45.710 Believe she's insane because you have to be insane to kill your children 08:46.270 --> 08:48.350 You have to be with the Bible calls past feeling 08:48.990 --> 08:50.670 You have to be a reprobate 08:51.210 --> 08:58.890 You have to be just absolutely out of your mind not only to kill your children kill three of them and kill them in the 08:58.890 --> 09:00.270 manner that she did it 09:01.070 --> 09:07.570 Okay, but despite all that let me tell you this insanity still makes a person culpable for their actions 09:07.570 --> 09:11.670 Okay, I'm gonna keep reading here a couple verses before we get into Daniel chapter 4 09:12.270 --> 09:18.650 Ecclesiastes chapter 9 verse number 3 says this is an evil among all things that are done under the Sun that there's one event unto all 09:18.650 --> 09:22.910 Yay, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil and 09:24.310 --> 09:28.730 Madness is in their heart while they live and after that they go to the dead 09:28.730 --> 09:32.810 What is the Bible telling us here madness is another way of saying insanity to go crazy 09:33.450 --> 09:40.930 It's just a synonym for that and the Bible saying here that pretty much all of humanity has the potential to go insane 09:40.930 --> 09:44.270 Whether you're a Christian or not whether you're saved or not 09:44.270 --> 09:49.670 Everyone has the potential to just absolutely lose their minds 09:49.670 --> 09:55.730 It's possible for anybody to come under this type of condition and I'm gonna explain to you 09:55.730 --> 10:02.550 I'm gonna show you a bunch of different examples in the Bible both saved and unsaved who just completely lost her mind everyone is subject to this right 10:03.590 --> 10:09.830 Now why do people go insane? Why is it that people lose their minds? Why do they go through a state of psychosis? 10:10.390 --> 10:14.490 Well, I'm gonna give you a couple reasons first and foremost as a form of judgment from God 10:14.490 --> 10:19.030 Okay, so you have to understand this before we could ever even get into the examples 10:19.030 --> 10:24.650 Before we can give a conclusion to this we have to recognize that this is a spiritual thing 10:25.110 --> 10:31.310 Meaning that when people go insane it could be because of the fact that God is punishing them and in fact 10:31.310 --> 10:33.450 Let me read you from Deuteronomy 28 verse 27 10:33.450 --> 10:35.350 You can write these verses if you want to read them later 10:36.090 --> 10:42.090 Deuteronomy chapter 28 verse 27 says this the Lord will smite thee with the botch of Egypt and with 10:42.090 --> 10:49.730 Emeralds and with the scab and with the itch whereof thou canst not be healed the Lord shall smite thee listen to this with 10:49.730 --> 10:51.730 madness and 10:52.490 --> 10:53.290 Blindness and 10:53.750 --> 11:00.590 Astonishment of heart the Bible says so this shows us that the source of insanity for a lot of people in this world is God 11:01.330 --> 11:04.770 You see people just going insane. It's possible that God has 11:05.450 --> 11:11.050 Strictened that person with absolute insanity as a form of punishment. He said why would God do such a thing? 11:11.250 --> 11:13.330 Well, I don't know maybe because they're blaspheming God in their heart 11:13.330 --> 11:15.890 Maybe because they're just an absolute wicked person 11:15.890 --> 11:24.550 Maybe because they're a reprobate maybe because they're blaspheming and cursing God and harming others and rejecting the truth and therefore God 11:25.190 --> 11:30.010 Removes their mental faculty so they can no longer function as a normal human being. That's a punishment 11:30.610 --> 11:33.330 He smites them the Bible says with 11:33.330 --> 11:37.410 Madness second Thessalonians 2 verse 10 says this and with all the 11:37.410 --> 11:43.320 Seevableness of unrighteousness and them that perish because they receive not the love of the truth that they might be saved and 11:43.940 --> 11:47.600 For this cause listen to this God shall send them strong 11:47.600 --> 11:53.880 Delusions that they should believe a lie that they all might be damned who believe not the truth that have pleasure in 11:53.880 --> 12:01.160 Unrighteousness so according to second Thessalonians chapter 2 the Bible tells us that sometimes God makes people mentally insane 12:01.160 --> 12:06.220 He gives them a strong delusion as a result of their rejection of the truth 12:07.020 --> 12:09.420 So they just continually reject the gospel 12:09.420 --> 12:13.460 Continue to reject that it's by faith in Jesus Christ and then on top of that 12:13.460 --> 12:17.820 They have a hatred for the truth and a love for the lie God says okay 12:17.820 --> 12:21.280 I'll just give you a strong delusion that you should believe a lie and be damned 12:21.780 --> 12:24.560 Now this is different than the God that you hear about in your Sunday school class 12:25.420 --> 12:30.120 You don't really hear this on a Sunday morning in Sunday school class because pastors don't really know how to explain all this 12:30.120 --> 12:32.440 But I'll explain it to you. God just does it 12:33.800 --> 12:37.240 Here I'll explain to you. That's why you shouldn't reject the gospel 12:38.600 --> 12:42.460 Here's a good reason not to reject the gospel aside from the fact that hell is real and 12:43.400 --> 12:45.520 If you reject the gospel you reject salvation 12:45.520 --> 12:51.600 You will go to hell for all of eternity and burn there and be tormented day and night 12:51.600 --> 12:54.660 If you don't believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, here's another thing while you're here on this earth 12:54.660 --> 12:55.620 You can go mentally insane 12:56.120 --> 13:01.020 You can become delusional and it's God's form of punishment on your life for 13:01.020 --> 13:08.880 Rejecting the truth. Okay, so, you know, sometimes people go mentally insane as a form of judgment from God 13:08.880 --> 13:14.960 But also just persisting in sinfulness and sinful activities can cause you to go insane 13:14.960 --> 13:21.460 Ecclesiastes 10 13 says the beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness and the end of his talk is mischievous 13:22.300 --> 13:26.040 Madness another way to describe this would be, you know, if someone is 13:26.040 --> 13:29.560 Delving into, you know, mind-altering drugs 13:30.740 --> 13:37.060 They're, you know, experimenting with LSD. They're experimenting with trumes 13:37.060 --> 13:43.920 They're experimenting with any form of drugs that can just completely change your mind. They can just permanently be fried and 13:44.920 --> 13:47.700 We've seen this if you don't know what I'm talking about go to downtown LA 13:48.780 --> 13:54.340 You see tons of examples lots of illustrations there, okay, and then you think there's a what's wrong with these people 13:54.340 --> 13:57.500 They just seem insane. They are insane and obviously, you know 13:57.500 --> 14:00.980 We can say some of them are demonically possessed and we're gonna get into that in just a bit 14:00.980 --> 14:05.360 But sometimes they just had a bad trip and they stayed on that bad trip 14:05.360 --> 14:11.120 God allowed them to suffer the consequences of their actions of their sinfulness 14:11.120 --> 14:17.060 They destroy their minds look folks. This is why it's important for us to value the virtue of being sober 14:17.060 --> 14:26.800 That means we abstain from alcohol abstain from marijuana abstain from drugs because the Bible exalts being sober and being vigilant 14:28.940 --> 14:31.900 So why do people go insane? Sometimes it's a punishment from God 14:32.500 --> 14:36.860 Sometimes because of the fact that they are just persisting in sinful behavior 14:37.700 --> 14:45.320 Persisting in you know drugs and alcohol it can cause them to go insane. Here's another reason and this is gonna shock you 14:45.320 --> 14:48.580 You know, sometimes people go insane just because they're faking it 14:48.580 --> 14:50.500 Me and they're not really insane 14:51.800 --> 14:54.420 You notice people in this world that just fake being crazy 14:54.420 --> 14:56.840 either because they want to 14:56.840 --> 15:04.400 Get the drugs get the anti-depressants and you know get whatever or just because they want people to sympathize with them 15:04.880 --> 15:09.860 Sometimes people actually fake it now in first salmon 21. We have an example of this of David 15:10.460 --> 15:13.680 feigning himself to be mad and he's literally like, you know 15:13.680 --> 15:15.860 He's allowing like saliva to come out of his mouth 15:15.860 --> 15:20.040 He's scribbling on the doors and they're just like why are you bringing this crazy guy around me? 15:20.200 --> 15:22.860 He wasn't really insane. He just acting like it 15:22.860 --> 15:26.520 But you know you have a lot of people today that feign themselves to be insane as well 15:26.840 --> 15:27.100 Okay 15:28.260 --> 15:29.360 They're just faking it 15:30.360 --> 15:31.340 Here's another reason 15:31.840 --> 15:35.780 It's because of false religion. You know false religion can cause you to go insane 15:35.780 --> 15:41.440 Yeah, how do you know well when you look at the religions of this world and the fact that they actually have followers 15:41.440 --> 15:43.440 You think to yourself these people got to be crazy 15:44.880 --> 15:47.140 The fact that Islam have so many converts 15:47.660 --> 15:48.640 You guys are crazy 15:48.640 --> 15:55.200 The fact that their leader is a pedophile and you're still following that you gotta be crazy 15:55.940 --> 16:02.960 The fact that Mormonism exists and that there's people following Mormonism and doing the holy underwear thing 16:02.960 --> 16:08.380 And believing they're gonna get their own planet and have eternal babies. That's insane 16:08.740 --> 16:11.540 Well, you know what false religion can make people go crazy 16:11.540 --> 16:14.340 Because along with that is just a rejection of the truth 16:14.340 --> 16:21.720 Therefore God allows them to be given over to the lie Jeremiah chapter 50 verse 38 says this a draw is upon her waters 16:21.720 --> 16:23.520 And they shall be dried up 16:23.520 --> 16:29.740 For it is the land of graven images and they are mad upon their idols 16:30.420 --> 16:34.380 Mad meaning crazy insane and look you can go to India 16:34.380 --> 16:39.960 You can go to Southeast Asia and see this all these idols on every corner 16:39.960 --> 16:44.920 Just being performed to just demonic entities demonic idols and you think to yourself 16:44.920 --> 16:49.300 How can these people believe these things? Yeah, because they're crazy. They've gone insane 16:49.300 --> 16:55.700 Their mental faculties are not operating because of the fact that they knew God, but they glorified them not as God neither 16:55.700 --> 17:00.820 We're thankful, but became listen to this vein in their imagination and their foolish heart was darken. Okay? 17:01.400 --> 17:06.040 So sometimes they're faking it. Sometimes it's a judgment from God. It's persistent sinfulness 17:06.040 --> 17:12.340 It's because of false religion. Let me also say this is that physical conditions can affect a person's mental state 17:12.340 --> 17:17.120 Where they think that they're going crazy. I mean think about this, you know, Elijah was so 17:17.120 --> 17:22.860 Emotionally and physically depleted that he literally told God take my life away, right? 17:23.280 --> 17:26.420 And no man ever yet hated his own flesh, but nourished it than cherished it 17:26.420 --> 17:31.860 So obviously he must have been in a very bad physical and mental condition to have those thoughts 17:33.140 --> 17:39.940 Job's physical condition was so profoundly devastating that he said in Job 7 14 15 excuse me 17:39.940 --> 17:44.400 Well, let me read to you from verse 14 then thou scarred me with dreams and 17:45.180 --> 17:52.360 Terrify us me through visions so that my soul chooses strangling and death rather than my life 17:52.360 --> 18:01.300 I loathe it. I would not live all way. Let me alone for my days are vanity now with Elijah the solution to his 18:01.300 --> 18:07.200 You know depression to his mental state. God just said sleep and eat 18:07.920 --> 18:12.680 You just need more sleep you need to get some food in you and then you can be replenished and you know 18:12.680 --> 18:19.040 You'll be fine. How about this fear can often be a result of insanity, you know people who are just paranoid 18:19.040 --> 18:22.880 Just constantly wondering what's going on thinking that people are after them 18:22.880 --> 18:23.580 This is fear 18:23.580 --> 18:29.380 But the Bible says that God didn't give us a spirit of fear but of power love and a sound mind, okay? 18:30.460 --> 18:32.540 And look, I've known Christians are just paranoid 18:33.200 --> 18:38.500 I'm known Christians that were so paranoid that you know, they have and look if you have a security system 18:38.500 --> 18:43.020 You know, it's all good, but this this guy was like overkill like he was like Batman 18:43.020 --> 18:46.240 You know, I mean he just had like all these screens in his room 18:46.240 --> 18:51.080 And then he just had all these web and I'm like, have you been threatened? He's like no 18:51.080 --> 18:57.280 I haven't I'm like have people said they're coming after he's like no. No, I'm just getting ready for what? No one knows you 18:58.060 --> 18:59.160 nobody knows you 19:00.320 --> 19:01.080 She's paranoia 19:01.540 --> 19:06.660 But the Bible says perfect love casteth out fear fear has torment the Bible says 19:06.660 --> 19:13.240 And so people can go insane because of fear they become paranoid they become so overly worried 19:13.240 --> 19:14.960 That they lose their minds 19:14.960 --> 19:20.840 The Bible tells us in Leviticus chapter 26 verse 36 and upon them that are left alive of you 19:20.840 --> 19:26.800 I will send a faintness into their hearts in the land of their enemies and the sound of a shaken leaf 19:26.800 --> 19:33.780 Shall chase them and they shall flee as fleeing from a sword and they shall fall when none pursue it 19:33.780 --> 19:38.920 Here's another reason why people go insane and this is very common and that is demonic possession 19:39.720 --> 19:46.100 Sometimes people absolutely lose their minds because they're possessed by devils. Yes, that's a real thing 19:46.100 --> 19:49.500 Okay, and an often worse in conjunction with drugs 19:50.100 --> 19:54.480 You know, like I don't know if this person is on drugs or the demon possessed. Yes 19:55.900 --> 20:01.140 Yes, because sometimes it's the drugs that kind of opens up the door to demonic possession 20:01.140 --> 20:06.000 Okay, the Bible says in Matthew chapter 4 verse 24 and his fame went throughout all Syria 20:06.000 --> 20:13.520 And they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with diverse diseases and torments and those which were possessed with 20:13.520 --> 20:20.920 Devils and those which were lunatic and those that had the palsy and he healed them 20:20.920 --> 20:24.820 And lastly, let me say this is that people go insane because they're reprobates 20:25.380 --> 20:32.680 Okay, meaning that they have been rejected by God indefinitely for salvation because of their rejection of the truth 20:32.680 --> 20:36.780 Romans 128 tells us this even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge 20:36.780 --> 20:42.260 God gave them over to a reprobate mind to do those things which are not convenient 20:42.260 --> 20:44.980 And so that's important to note there as well 20:44.980 --> 20:49.060 Sometimes people are just mentally insane because of the fact that God removed their conscience 20:49.060 --> 20:51.700 Their conscience is seared according to the Bible 20:51.700 --> 20:59.060 They don't have the mental capacity to differentiate between good and evil because they have a reprobate mind 20:59.060 --> 21:04.040 Okay, so the point being here is that people go insane for a variety of reasons 21:04.040 --> 21:09.260 But in every single instance if they're to commit a crime, they're still culpable for that crime 21:09.780 --> 21:16.560 If they murder someone they are supposed to be held responsible for that murder doesn't matter how insane they were 21:16.560 --> 21:22.760 Okay, now let's look at a couple examples of people who lost their minds in the Bible. You're in Daniel chapter 4 21:22.760 --> 21:25.340 Let's talk about Nebuchadnezzar. Okay 21:27.120 --> 21:33.420 Nebuchadnezzar was made insane by God because of his pride and unwillingness to repent and correct his ways 21:33.420 --> 21:39.570 Look at verse 27. It says, wherefore, O King, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee and 21:40.440 --> 21:43.600 break off thy sins by righteousness and 21:43.600 --> 21:50.000 Iniquities by showing mercy to the poor it may be a lengthening of thy tranquility 21:50.000 --> 21:57.080 So Nebuchadnezzar is a pretty godless person. He's a very angry individual short fuse 21:57.080 --> 22:01.380 power-hungry and the guy is just extremely arrogant 22:02.120 --> 22:06.980 Unmerciful you could read the chapters prior to this and so he he you know 22:06.980 --> 22:12.220 He is boasting. He's prideful and they're basically saying hey, you know if you act 22:12.220 --> 22:19.360 Righteously as a king this doesn't mean he's saved, but if you act righteously you show mercy to the poor, you know 22:19.360 --> 22:21.620 God can lengthen your peace 22:22.140 --> 22:26.200 He can lengthen the peace of mind that you'll have here on this earth, right? 22:27.140 --> 22:33.360 You can live out your day. He's just living in peace and I don't believe this is God dealing with Nebuchadnezzar as a 22:33.360 --> 22:35.960 Saved person. I do believe that God just deals with 22:35.960 --> 22:39.600 magistrates and kings and presidents in their own 22:39.600 --> 22:44.320 Type of position where if they act righteously, you know, God can bless that nation 22:44.320 --> 22:48.160 He can bless that individual and so forth and I believe that's what's taking place here 22:48.160 --> 22:55.480 He's saying hey, you know repent of your ways stop being a wicked person and you'll lengthen your peace your tranquility your 22:55.980 --> 23:00.100 soundness of mind verse 28 says this came upon the kingdom of Nebuchadnezzar at 23:01.280 --> 23:04.940 The end of 12 months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon 23:04.940 --> 23:10.560 The kings vacant said is not this great Babylon that I have built for the house of the kingdom 23:10.560 --> 23:15.020 By the might of my power and for the honor of my majesty 23:15.680 --> 23:19.220 So what's going on here? You know he the prophet tells them. Hey 23:20.380 --> 23:23.040 Repent get right. Don't be arrogant 23:23.040 --> 23:29.940 You know be good to the poor break off your sins by righteousness and for a full 12 months. He just ignores this 23:31.020 --> 23:34.180 So I would say that God is being pretty merciful to Nebuchadnezzar 23:35.040 --> 23:38.120 Now what's the principle there that we can learn that's outside of this sermon? 23:38.240 --> 23:42.420 I'll tell you what, you know, just because God hasn't punished you right now for your sin doesn't mean you're not gonna get it 23:43.440 --> 23:45.020 You might be in the fifth month 23:45.020 --> 23:51.760 You might be in the sixth month. You might be in the ninth month. Hey, you might be in the 11th month 23:52.360 --> 23:54.640 Don't think just because God has not punished you 23:55.160 --> 23:58.820 That just automatically means that he places his stamp of approval on your actions 23:58.820 --> 24:04.380 Because the Bible says here that on the 12th month when he walked out and he said these things evil came upon him 24:04.940 --> 24:11.260 What does he say? He said, oh man, this Babylon is because of me. I did this. No Nebuchadnezzar 24:11.260 --> 24:18.120 God did it not because he likes you not because he favors you, but because it's working towards his ultimate plan 24:19.260 --> 24:19.840 verse 24:20.620 --> 24:22.260 31 says while the word 24:22.260 --> 24:27.120 Was in the king's mouth there fell a voice from heaven saying oh 24:27.120 --> 24:32.900 King Nebuchadnezzar to thee it is spoken the kingdom departed from thee 24:32.900 --> 24:38.200 And they shall drive thee from men and thy dwelling shall be with the beast of the field 24:38.200 --> 24:44.400 And they shall make thee to eat grass as an oxen and seven times shall pass over thee until down 24:44.400 --> 24:49.820 No, it's that the most high rule it in the kingdom of men and give it to whomsoever he will 24:49.820 --> 24:56.280 So as he's just boasting about his greatness and how he's awesome. God just speaks to him and 24:57.580 --> 25:01.380 He basically says like you're gonna be punished for this. I'm gonna remove your sanity 25:01.380 --> 25:08.680 I'm paraphrasing verse 33 the same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar and he was driven from men and 25:09.140 --> 25:18.560 Did eat grass as an oxen and his body was wet with the dew of heaven till his hairs were grown like eagles feathers and his nails 25:18.560 --> 25:19.580 Like birds claws 25:20.320 --> 25:24.880 So what do we have here? We have that he just completely goes insane. He thinks himself to be an animal 25:25.460 --> 25:28.480 So he goes from being this awesome king 25:29.120 --> 25:36.380 This conquering king this powerful magistrate to being reduced to acting like an absolute animal 25:36.380 --> 25:40.860 He becomes a vegetarian his nails grow his hair grows 25:40.860 --> 25:46.020 He just looks absolutely horrendous even to the point where his subjects are just kicking them out 25:46.020 --> 25:49.480 They don't want nothing to do with them. Why because he went insane. He went crazy 25:51.500 --> 25:56.220 His insanity was a punishment for his pride and his sin now 25:56.220 --> 25:58.900 This is actually today referred to clinically as 26:00.040 --> 26:00.480 Boanthropy 26:01.480 --> 26:07.060 Okay, where people say, you know, there's been people throughout history that they thought that there were like a cow or an ox 26:07.840 --> 26:09.940 And they start literally eating grass 26:10.600 --> 26:14.760 You know like a cow like an ox and there's actually a recorded 26:14.760 --> 26:17.980 Instance of this in the 11th century with the ruler from Persia 26:17.980 --> 26:22.580 Who basically thought he was a cow and he would eat grass like an ox and everything? 26:22.580 --> 26:27.820 I believe it was God's punishment on that person for doing so. Okay, and you know what you say 26:27.820 --> 26:31.340 Well, do you have any modern examples? Well, you know furbies are kind of like that, right? 26:33.820 --> 26:37.300 Well, is that what they're called furries furries not fur piece furries 26:38.440 --> 26:40.080 Furries are the little animals, right? 26:41.940 --> 26:45.320 Furries are an example of this or just people who just think that they're animals 26:46.280 --> 26:51.100 You know these these reprobates who just want to be you know a call the dog 26:51.100 --> 26:56.240 They want to be called a cat they want to identify themselves as some sort of animal, you know 26:56.240 --> 27:02.240 This is a curse upon them. It's because he disobeyed God 28:07.920 --> 28:14.200 Prideful and arrogant and rebellious God exalted him to the position of being a king of 28:14.200 --> 28:17.940 Conquering all these nations. He gives no glory to God and God says okay 28:17.940 --> 28:24.000 You want to take credit? Then I'll just make you an ox for seven entire years 28:24.000 --> 28:27.960 Bro became a vegetarian for seven entire years 28:27.960 --> 28:34.580 Where he's just eating grass like an ox looking like an absolute beast just completely embarrassing himself 28:35.100 --> 28:37.280 Living out there like an animal, okay? 28:38.300 --> 28:40.520 You know and by the way homos act like animals 28:41.120 --> 28:45.500 So you can see how that's like associated with that. Yeah, they act like animals and 28:46.420 --> 28:48.620 So this is part of the punishment, okay? 28:49.820 --> 28:56.200 Like anthropy or broanthropy is what it's often called like anthropy is just when people think they're transitioning into becoming an animal 28:56.200 --> 29:01.640 This is what's happening to Nebuchadnezzar go to 1st Samuel chapter 16 first Samuel chapter 16 29:01.640 --> 29:04.460 We would look at Nebuchadnezzar today and say that guy went 29:04.460 --> 29:11.160 Mentally insane that person is crazy. Would we say oh put him on anti-depressants put on you know 29:11.160 --> 29:13.620 Give him some medication. No get right with God 29:14.440 --> 29:20.000 And in fact it wasn't until the seven years are over that Nebuchadnezzar gave glory to God 29:20.000 --> 29:22.480 He gave credit to the God of heaven 29:22.480 --> 29:29.960 Recognized that he's the only deity and what happened his saying is his mind which is reason the Bible says returned unto him 29:30.900 --> 29:32.920 Because God is able to just flip the switch 29:33.600 --> 29:37.800 And say, okay now you're thinking right? Let me just flip the switch and guess what he 29:37.800 --> 29:41.280 Reinstated him to his former glory. He became the king again 29:41.280 --> 29:46.820 His life was restored as normal as before but it took an entire seven years for him to get right 29:46.820 --> 29:52.600 He didn't need medication. He didn't need pills. He didn't need the apothecary 29:52.600 --> 29:58.060 He didn't need a sorcerer. He needed the great physician and he needed to get right with God 29:59.660 --> 30:06.060 Insanity sometimes plays out because people are just rebellious against the Lord. That's why and let me say this 30:06.060 --> 30:11.860 Obviously Nebuchadnezzar is an unsaved example, but I'm I guarantee you there's an example of saved people doing this 30:11.860 --> 30:13.300 And in fact, we're gonna look at one right now 30:14.200 --> 30:19.980 Let's look at example number two of someone going absolutely insane and that is Saul 30:21.360 --> 30:24.160 Saul's probably the greatest example of all of these okay 30:24.960 --> 30:27.200 Look at first Sammy chapter 16 verse 14 30:27.200 --> 30:32.460 It says then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him referring to David in the midst of his brethren 30:32.460 --> 30:37.740 And the spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward so Sammy rose up and went to Ramah now 30:37.740 --> 30:42.900 We obviously know that Saul was the first king of the United Kingdom of Israel and he started off great 30:42.900 --> 30:46.540 He was head and shoulders above the rest. He was a humble person 30:46.540 --> 30:51.560 He was little in his own sight the Bible says I mean the guy had a great beginning 30:51.560 --> 30:53.900 But then pride snuck into his heart 30:54.760 --> 30:58.600 Rebelliousness snuck into his heart and he began to disobey the Lord 30:58.600 --> 31:05.540 He wasn't carrying out the commandments of God and therefore God ended up punishing him and in fact part of his sin 31:05.540 --> 31:07.280 Was that he was envious? 31:08.080 --> 31:08.720 Towards David 31:09.540 --> 31:15.480 Now God had already determined once Saul disobeyed him that the kingdom of God was gonna be taken from him and given to David 31:15.480 --> 31:18.460 Okay, which is why David is being anointed at this time 31:18.460 --> 31:23.780 But even though David is one being anointed, you know Saul still has to fulfill his term so to speak 31:23.780 --> 31:28.620 So he's still the king even though David is the runner-up after he goes away 31:28.620 --> 31:31.140 I look at verse 14 says the spirit of the Lord 31:31.720 --> 31:36.000 departed from Saul and an evil spirit from the Lord 31:36.560 --> 31:41.900 Troubled him and Saul's servant said unto him behold now an evil spirit from God 31:42.500 --> 31:45.200 Troubly, let our Lord now command the servants 31:45.200 --> 31:51.660 Which are before thee to seek out a man who is a cunning player on a harp and it shall come to pass when the evil 31:51.660 --> 31:55.840 Spirit from God is upon thee that he shall play with his hand and that shall be well 31:55.840 --> 32:02.200 So, you know he the Lord departs from him in the sense of God's power is no longer with him 32:02.200 --> 32:05.300 Now people often point to this and say well isn't this proof that 32:05.300 --> 32:08.980 Saul was not saved because the spirit of the Lord departed from him 32:08.980 --> 32:16.020 No, because in the Old Testament when people got saved the Holy Spirit would come and regenerate them 32:16.800 --> 32:22.240 Bring their dead spirits to life, but he wouldn't necessarily live within them as he does with us today 32:22.920 --> 32:27.360 The part of salvation that the Holy Spirit plays in is that he regenerates the dead spirit 32:27.360 --> 32:31.100 You know the Bible tells us you hath he quickened who were dead 32:31.740 --> 32:34.640 Interest passes in sin not by works of righteousness, which we have done 32:34.640 --> 32:40.800 But according to his mercy he saved us by the washing and regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost 32:41.380 --> 32:43.360 So the Holy Spirit comes at the moment of salvation 32:43.860 --> 32:46.260 Brings your spirit to life and that's it 32:46.260 --> 32:50.900 But in the New Testament the Bible tells us that he sealed there until the day of redemption 32:51.480 --> 32:54.920 The major difference between the two is the temple 32:56.420 --> 32:59.900 Tabernacle and temple the Bible says in the New Testament that we're the temple of the Holy Ghost 32:59.900 --> 33:04.100 Which we have of God and we are not our own the temple in the Old Testament was a literal physical building 33:04.620 --> 33:08.860 So God's presence in the Old Testament was in that physical tabernacle and temple 33:08.860 --> 33:13.220 Well since our bodies of the temple in the New Testament the Holy Spirit resides within us 33:13.880 --> 33:19.500 And so in the Old Testament when the Holy Spirit would save people he would do the same exact way that he does it today 33:19.500 --> 33:24.540 The difference is he would not abide in them as he does in the New 33:24.540 --> 33:27.980 He would come upon them in order to give them wisdom 33:29.540 --> 33:32.740 Courage boldness and so forth, but that was it 33:32.740 --> 33:36.440 So when the Bible says here that the spirit of the Lord departed from Saul 33:36.440 --> 33:39.080 It means that he's not a spirit filled person anymore 33:39.840 --> 33:42.300 And then God sends an evil spirit 33:42.300 --> 33:45.740 A demonic spirit to oppress him 33:45.740 --> 33:46.380 Okay 33:47.640 --> 33:51.720 Now the funny thing is is that you know the servants see this they're like oh man this guy's tripping out 33:51.720 --> 33:52.240 You know 33:52.820 --> 33:57.600 He's got like an evil spirit on him. And what do they do? They're like he needs antidepressants 33:58.380 --> 34:00.840 You know he needs antidepressants 34:00.840 --> 34:04.920 He needs you know, we need to take him to the doctor. He needs a psychiatrist 34:04.920 --> 34:10.840 He needs a therapist because what they're doing is creating a solution with music, but it doesn't really do anything 34:11.400 --> 34:13.500 Chills him out for a moment, but it doesn't really take care of the job 34:14.200 --> 34:17.180 Because he's listening to it, you know, he calms down for a little bit 34:17.180 --> 34:20.780 But then later on he goes on his murderous spree. They're after 34:21.360 --> 34:24.280 You know, and this is kind of like your pharmaceutical industry 34:24.280 --> 34:31.020 Where people pay millions of thousands and millions of dollars for medication doesn't do anything 34:31.840 --> 34:38.080 They're still depressed. They're still angry. They still got mental issues does absolutely nothing but put 34:38.640 --> 34:45.500 Money into the pockets of those who are promoting it, you understand and so look at chapter 18 if you will chapter 18 34:48.960 --> 34:51.960 First Sammy chapter 18 look at verse 7 it says in the woman 34:52.920 --> 34:56.540 Answered one another as they played and said Saul has slain his thousands 34:57.060 --> 35:00.900 And david his 10,000 so david comes back from a war 35:01.460 --> 35:05.900 And you know david's he is a mighty warrior gods with him 35:05.900 --> 35:10.620 He's a man's man. He's taking care of business. He's not the king. He's subject them to saul 35:11.080 --> 35:14.640 But you know, he's famous. In other words, they're giving him more credit 35:28.420 --> 35:32.180 Than what saul has accomplished. Oh, you know, look in my opinion though 35:32.180 --> 35:35.380 If I was saw I'd be like, yeah, he works for me. So he's supposed to be doing the bulk of the work 35:36.040 --> 35:39.140 You know, he's working for the kingdom. We're on the same team 35:39.140 --> 35:43.200 It doesn't matter how many people I've slain or he slain we're both on the same team 35:43.200 --> 35:47.420 But because he has the evil spirit because he's envious it's bothering him 35:47.420 --> 35:52.520 Look at verse 8 and saul was very wroth wroth means that he's wrathful 35:53.180 --> 35:57.280 And the same displeased them and he said they have ascribed them to david 10 thousands 35:57.280 --> 36:01.360 And to me they have ascribed with thousands and what can you have more about the kingdom? 36:01.660 --> 36:03.200 He's just being just kind of throwing a fit 36:03.720 --> 36:05.500 Why don't you guys just give him the crown already? 36:06.040 --> 36:09.980 You know, he's like throwing a little fit verse nine and saul 36:09.980 --> 36:15.140 I david from that day forward. So, you know, he has the evil spirit 36:38.200 --> 36:43.580 He's being tormented. He's in a bad mood. He's angry. He's wrathful 36:43.580 --> 36:47.900 So he's doing what the servants basically recommended which is to listen to some music 36:48.320 --> 36:52.960 And david's there, you know, he's playing with the harp and the bible says here that saul is prophesying 36:52.960 --> 36:56.800 Prophecying in the bible doesn't mean just preaching.
