And the time I'm assuming this morning is I am not a Calvinist. I'm not 00:27.010 --> 00:32.450 a Calvinist. This is not a Calvinist church. We do not believe in reform, theology. We 00:32.450 --> 00:36.550 completely reject all five points of Calvinism. And I want to explain to you in 00:36.550 --> 00:41.030 this sermon why that is. Now you're in Ephesians chapter one. Hold your place 00:41.030 --> 00:44.030 there. Put a piece of paper or a pen there. We're gonna come back to that in 00:44.030 --> 00:48.050 just a bit. Go to Romans chapter three if you would. Romans chapter three. I am 00:48.050 --> 00:51.930 an independent fundamental Baptist. I believe in salvation by grace through 00:51.930 --> 00:56.590 faith and I believe in free will. I believe that God has given us the 00:56.590 --> 01:01.450 ability to choose things. You know the Bible says choose you this day whom ye 01:01.450 --> 01:06.030 will serve, right? The Bible constantly emphasizes the importance of us 01:06.030 --> 01:11.250 exercising our will to choose to do the will of God, to choose to believe on 01:11.250 --> 01:15.750 the Lord Jesus Christ, to choose to disobey him. We're not made like robots. 01:16.210 --> 01:22.130 We're not made with as sentient beings that cannot select or choose what to 01:22.130 --> 01:25.590 do, whether to obey God or not. We have the ability to choose these 01:25.590 --> 01:30.250 things and God did not elect certain people to go to heaven and you know 01:30.250 --> 01:33.870 essentially choose certain people to go to hell. And you say what is Calvinism? 01:34.650 --> 01:38.490 What exactly do Calvinists teach? Well at the end of the day that's 01:38.490 --> 01:43.270 exactly what they believe. They believe that God essentially chooses certain 01:43.270 --> 01:48.330 people for eternal life and in turn damns others to eternal damnation 01:48.330 --> 01:53.390 just based on a whim. Not based upon their rejection of the gospel. Not 01:53.390 --> 01:58.110 based upon whether they're reprobates or not. It's literally just based upon the 01:58.110 --> 02:02.190 whim of God that he essentially selects certain people for salvation others for 02:02.190 --> 02:06.270 eternal damnation just because. So if we're to look at this group right here 02:06.270 --> 02:11.210 it's basically God saying you're going to heaven not you not you you you not 02:11.210 --> 02:16.270 you not you not you you you not you. And he's just like why? Just because 02:16.270 --> 02:19.870 it's according to the good pleasure of his will. It's his will for some people 02:19.870 --> 02:22.670 to be saved and for other people to be damned. But that's not what the 02:22.670 --> 02:27.030 Bible teaches. The Bible says that God is not willing that any should perish but 02:27.030 --> 02:31.390 that all should come to repentance right? He wants all men to come to the saving 02:31.390 --> 02:35.710 knowledge of Jesus Christ and he wants people to choose to believe on his son. 02:36.350 --> 02:39.990 We always see know that many people will not because broad is the way to lead 02:39.990 --> 02:43.490 it to destruction and many there be which go in there at. But at the end 02:43.490 --> 02:46.490 of the day you know God has no pleasure in the death of the wicked. 02:46.710 --> 02:49.990 He doesn't want them to die and go to hell. That's the reason he sent 02:49.990 --> 02:53.070 his son to die on the cross to pay for the sins of the world. The Bible says 02:53.070 --> 02:57.430 that he is the propitiation for our sins and not for ours only but also for the 02:57.430 --> 03:01.710 sins of the whole world demonstrating that God is not partial in that manner. 03:01.830 --> 03:05.590 He wants all people in all places to be saved. Now let me give you a couple 03:05.590 --> 03:08.910 introductory statements before I get into my main points this morning about 03:08.910 --> 03:13.530 not being a Calvinist. You know today on the internet people typically 03:13.950 --> 03:18.010 categorize people into three separate categories. These three sections. 03:18.570 --> 03:24.350 And basically they say well if you are not for Coca-Cola you must be for Pepsi, 03:24.590 --> 03:28.690 right? If you're not a Democrat that you must be a Republican but we as a church 03:28.690 --> 03:31.110 don't fit into any of these descriptions. Now what I mean by that? 03:31.390 --> 03:35.790 Well to them you're either a Catholic, a Calvinist or an Armenian, okay? 03:36.110 --> 03:38.510 Now I don't mean Armenian like like Brother Hyde from Armenia. 03:39.090 --> 03:41.990 I'm not talking about that. We're talking about those who uphold the 03:41.990 --> 03:47.030 doctrines of Jacob Arminius from the 1500s that essentially is the 03:47.030 --> 03:51.110 counterpart to Calvinism, okay? And really what they'll do is Catholics will 03:51.110 --> 03:55.190 look at people like us and say so what are you a Calvinist or are you do you 03:55.190 --> 04:00.070 believe in Armenianism? And it's just like no. No, you didn't hear me right. 04:00.330 --> 04:05.730 Are you do you believe in Calvinism? Are you a Reformed Christian or do you 04:05.730 --> 04:09.590 believe in the doctrines of Arminius, Jacob Arminius? And it's like no. 04:10.330 --> 04:12.890 Now here's the thing you say what is the difference between the two? 04:13.850 --> 04:16.910 Well they're basically the same in a lot of ways to be quite honest with you. 04:17.030 --> 04:21.590 Okay? They pretty much believe the same exact thing with the with the few nuances. 04:22.170 --> 04:25.490 You know we already know what the Calvinists believe. They believe that 04:25.490 --> 04:31.090 basically God gives the people the ability to believe. So you're not choosing to be saved. 04:31.370 --> 04:36.730 God basically gives you the faith to believe in him but obviously that's not a biblical doctrine 04:36.730 --> 04:41.810 because the Bible talks about people you know die faith at safety referring to the fact 04:41.810 --> 04:45.410 that people have the faith that they have to place that faith in Christ to be saved. 04:46.050 --> 04:51.570 Calvinists will assert that God provides a certain power of grace in order to help 04:51.570 --> 04:59.390 someone to believe. Okay? Whereas Jacob Arminius essentially asserted that people are elected 04:59.390 --> 05:05.370 they're chosen based upon their faith in Christ. So basically it's kind of similar to what we 05:05.370 --> 05:09.390 believe in that once you place your faith in Jesus Christ you are the chosen of God. 05:09.390 --> 05:13.830 Okay? You know once you have been saved, you're the child of God, 05:14.430 --> 05:20.490 you're God's chosen people, you are the elect that is essentially true but he's still held to this 05:20.490 --> 05:27.230 belief that God basically uses his grace to kind of draw you into himself which is very Calvinistic. 05:27.570 --> 05:33.850 Okay? So he proposed these doctrines and he said well if we believe exactly like that then 05:33.850 --> 05:38.490 why wouldn't we say that we believe in Armenianism? Well because they believe that you can lose 05:38.490 --> 05:45.590 your salvation which is a damnedable heresy. Okay? You know they essentially assert that well 05:45.590 --> 05:51.090 you know you can lose your salvation and it's possible to lose it and Jacob Arminius was 05:51.090 --> 05:54.830 actually quoted as saying you know when it comes to losing your salvation I just placed a big 05:54.830 --> 05:59.430 question mark on that. Okay? Which obviously if you place a big question mark on eternal 05:59.430 --> 06:03.770 security you're probably not saved because then you know the Bible teaches that salvation 06:03.770 --> 06:09.110 is forever I give unto them eternal life and they shall never perish neither shall any man 06:09.110 --> 06:14.830 pluck them out of my hand I will a no wise cast them out he says no wise is an old way of saying for 06:14.830 --> 06:20.310 any reason whatsoever under any condition will you ever lose your salvation and if salvation 06:20.310 --> 06:26.150 can be lost it should not be called eternal life because eternal never ends. Okay? So you 06:26.150 --> 06:33.270 have these two camps here Jacob Arminius asserted these five points refuting John Calvin and 06:33.270 --> 06:38.550 then what you have later on is the cannons of door meeting together and essentially creating the 06:38.550 --> 06:44.890 five points of Calvinism. Calvinism of course stems from the reform theologian the popular reform 06:44.890 --> 06:49.830 theologian known as John Calvin who essentially taught the doctrines of grace they were later 06:49.830 --> 06:54.830 consolidated and expanded upon at the cannons of door as referring to the five points of 06:54.830 --> 07:01.350 Calvinism what we know today as being the tulip okay that cute little flower that teaches these 07:01.350 --> 07:06.990 doctrines of Calvinism you say well what are we we're Baptists what are we we're Christians we 07:06.990 --> 07:11.090 believe in the Bible now here's the thing is that Calvinists will assert that they believe in one 07:11.090 --> 07:16.890 saved always saved they preach one saved always saved and you know obviously when it comes to 07:16.890 --> 07:21.550 Calvinism it is a broad spectrum because I've run into Calvinists who are saved and they believe 07:21.550 --> 07:25.990 in the biblical doctrine of one saved always saved but I've also you know heard about other 07:25.990 --> 07:29.690 Calvinists and met other Calvinists they claim to believe in one saved always saved 07:29.690 --> 07:33.850 but then they assert well if you don't continue in your works then you're not really saved 07:33.850 --> 07:37.630 but that's not one saved always saved now is it that's a workspace salvation 07:38.970 --> 07:45.610 if a pastor gets up and says well you know if your faithful is serving God now if you are 07:45.610 --> 07:50.410 serving the Lord Jesus Christ now but somewhere along down the line you get out of the church 07:50.410 --> 07:56.050 you leave the will of God you stop serving the Lord you get involved in sin and you remain 07:56.050 --> 08:00.090 in that sin then that means you're not really saved that's not one saved always saved 08:01.150 --> 08:05.910 that's a workspace salvation and they'll often quote the verse from 1st John chapter 2 that says 08:05.910 --> 08:09.250 they went out from us for they were not of us for if they had been of us they would have no 08:09.250 --> 08:14.310 doubt continued with us essentially asserting that you need to continue in your works in 08:14.310 --> 08:18.170 order to prove that you're saved but that's not a biblical doctrine my friends but to him 08:18.170 --> 08:22.170 that work is not right but believe it on him to justify it the ungodly his faith is 08:22.170 --> 08:26.810 counted for righteousness not of works a standing man should boast not by works of righteousness 08:26.810 --> 08:31.290 which we have done but according to his mercy he saved us and quite frankly we have an example 08:31.290 --> 08:38.830 the Old Testament by the name of Saul who did not persevere in his works this man died a godless 08:38.830 --> 08:44.650 person in his actions this man you know he was going to the palm reader he's going to the 08:44.650 --> 08:51.050 witch at end door he is murderous he basically lived a wicked life to the very end he 08:51.050 --> 08:56.830 committed suicide yet the prophet Samuel said what today thou and thy son shall be with me 08:56.830 --> 09:02.870 and where was samuel when he said that in heaven proving one saved always saved that saw was a 09:02.870 --> 09:10.090 saved man and yes he died a dishonorable death he died in his sin but thankfully salvation is not 09:10.090 --> 09:14.450 based upon the works that you do in the future so what is it based upon the finished work of 09:14.450 --> 09:22.030 Jesus Christ it's based upon your faith in him and so we reject all forms of the gospel 09:22.030 --> 09:27.910 with the teach that you have to do something on your end some sort of deeds on your part 09:27.910 --> 09:32.230 some sort of works that you have to do to maintain your salvation because first Peter 09:32.230 --> 09:36.970 chapter one tells us that we are kept by the power of God listen to this through works 09:36.970 --> 09:42.830 no through faith that's what the Bible says okay and a lot of people have beef with that 09:42.830 --> 09:46.710 but who cares it's what the Bible says oh you're saying that I can just go and 09:46.710 --> 09:53.210 sin you sin anyways what are you talking about you know you're under this this illusion that somehow 09:53.210 --> 09:58.250 oh you can stop sinning after salvation yeah I agree there's certain sins that you don't 09:58.250 --> 10:03.770 have to commit anymore you don't have to live in fornication you don't have to commit adultery 10:03.770 --> 10:07.470 you don't have to commit drunkenness but guess what the thought of foolishness is still sin 10:07.470 --> 10:11.470 yeah and he that keep it the whole law yet offended in one point he's guilty of all 10:11.470 --> 10:17.530 so even though you're not out there being a serial killer being a complete drunkard being a 10:17.530 --> 10:22.930 railer you're still sinning in other ways according to the Bible and there's not a just man upon earth 10:22.930 --> 10:28.190 that do with good and sin it's not so if you think you're just well I'm saved and I'm just 10:28.190 --> 10:33.130 completely sinless now no you're actually lying to yourself and you're calling God a liar 10:33.130 --> 10:37.690 so the Bible says according to first John chapter one if you say you have no sin 10:37.690 --> 10:41.650 you do not the truth you know and you're calling God a liar so the Bible teaches 10:41.650 --> 10:44.770 because according to the Bible for all of sin come short of the glory of God 10:44.770 --> 10:49.630 there's none that do with good no not one and so over and over again the Bible emphasizes 10:49.630 --> 10:54.610 the fact that we are sinners because we have a corruptible body a corruptible flesh and so 10:54.610 --> 10:59.810 you know we're not Armenian and we're not Calvinists we're just Bible believers we're 10:59.810 --> 11:06.210 Baptists and we believe in one saved always saved you say well you know if you believe in 11:06.210 --> 11:11.010 one saved always saved then what exactly does that mean are you saying that someone can 11:11.010 --> 11:16.730 somewhere along down the road believe in Mormonism and still be saved the answer is no 11:18.050 --> 11:23.790 what the biblical prescription for the person who deviates from the faith in that manner meaning 11:23.790 --> 11:29.350 that they become a Muslim they become a Catholic they become a Mormon a Jehovah's 11:29.350 --> 11:33.450 Witness the biblical description for that person is that they were never safe to begin with 11:33.450 --> 11:37.870 right because they deviated from the doctrines of Christ this is what the Bible means when 11:37.870 --> 11:43.670 they says that they've fallen from grace they pretended they masqueraded as a believer but 11:43.670 --> 11:48.230 they were never really a believer to begin with and look at least we have a biblical example of 11:48.230 --> 11:53.150 that Judas Iscariot is a biblical example of that and what the funny thing is people try 11:53.150 --> 11:56.930 to point to Judas Iscariot as someone who lost his salvation and just completely ignored 11:56.930 --> 12:00.690 the words of Jesus Christ that says that he didn't believe from the beginning 12:01.530 --> 12:05.770 it's literally what it says it doesn't say he lost his salvation it says that he was a devil 12:05.770 --> 12:10.350 from the beginning and that he did not believe according to John chapter 6 meaning that he 12:10.350 --> 12:16.590 masqueraded as an apostle of Jesus Christ he masqueraded as a disciple as a Christian he 12:16.590 --> 12:21.750 had everyone fooled but the Lord Jesus Christ himself he didn't lose salvation he never 12:21.750 --> 12:26.610 had it to begin with because you can't lose salvation okay and so we believe in one saved 12:26.610 --> 12:32.150 always saved and again when it comes to Calvinists it is a broad spectrum I have personally talked 12:32.150 --> 12:37.130 to Calvinists that believe right on salvation they don't believe you have to persevere in your 12:37.130 --> 12:41.010 works to be saved they don't believe you have to repent of your sins to be saved because that 12:41.010 --> 12:44.450 is a workspace salvation they don't believe you have to keep God's commandments they believe 12:44.450 --> 12:49.510 it's strictly by your faith in him alone and that is the right gospel my friends 12:50.550 --> 12:53.870 Armenians on the other hand you know they they assert that they believe these things 12:54.510 --> 12:58.710 but they still believe you can lose your salvation and of course that idea has
